Mike,
Here is what I have figured out so far, and someone correct me if I am wrong..
SE V2 - Kit form, Latest SE, has all the bling (all metal where possible), Carbon Fiber frame
SE (V1) - Kit form, earlier version of the SE V2, I think had some issues including tail rotor.
SA - Kit form, same as SE V2, but with composite in most places and aluminum frame. Some versions available with Carbon fiber bits
SA ARF - 95% built. Same as SA, but only in composite. Some Horizon packages include 3550 Kv motor and ESC
XL CDE - Kit form, First Trex with CCPM, but not servo direct to swashplate. Uses linkages to go betweeen servos and swash.
XL HDE - Kit form, Non CCPM (you still have 4 servos, AIL,ELE,PIT and RUD, but AIL/ELE are the only two that work the swashplate).
Have you flown helis before??
If you are new to it, I would suggest an SE V2 (if you can afford it) or an SA (if your on a budget).
If you are uncomfortable building it, and there are a LOT of pieces, go with the SA with a combo deal. It can be had for about $250.
If you are new, you will also need (for any kit) a Transmitter/Receiver, Gyro, Servos (if not with Tx/Rx, or if they are poor quality), Brushless Motor, ESC and 2100 mah 20C battery.
If you go with the SA ARF, motor and ESC are included.

450S is available from hobbypeople.net for $229. Includes brushless motor and esc. As (not if) you break the plastic parts, replace them with metal. Shop the internet for good prices.
