Best cyclic servos for a T-Rex450 V2
Hi All,
I have a V1 T-Rex450se with hitec hs65's on the cyclic and it's fine. I do notice that returning EXACTALLY to center does not always happen.
Now I mean a fraction - the servos are fine and working normally..
I was wondering if a digital servo would be slightly better ?
What servos are better than the hs65's ? and are they worth any price difference..
I have just purchased a V2 and wondering if I should simply get the hitec's again for this heli or something better ?
cheers..

You'd be equally well served with either the HS65MG or DS285MG, although the DS285s will tend to be more precise since they're digital. On the other hand, the DS285s also suck more power, so if the BEC you're using is marginal for the amount current it's driving, the HS65s might be a better choice.

Thanks everyone for that - was headed the HS65mg's way but just wanted to see what was better out there..
The extra power drain by the digital on the std bec might be also a deciding factor..

If I ever unexpectedly find unexpected money somewhere, then I'd give these a try:
http://www.hitecrcd.com/servos/show?name=HS-5065MG
But I'd definitely consider using a dedicated BEC

RE: Best cyclic servos for a T-Rex450 V2
great thread...
I have a TREX 450S with Hitec HS-65HB (x3), Futaba 401 and S9650 on the tail, and a TREX450 SE with HS-65MG (x3), Futaba 40 and S9650 on the tail. I am very happy with both Helis!
I am currently building a TREX 450SA with JR DS285 (x3), JR G500T and DS3400G on the tail. During testing I noticed the DS285's have a lot of chatter. Is this normal? Neither of my HS-65's don't make noise unless input is given.
I also found some specs that state the DS285's are much slower and less torque then the HS-65's, is this noticeable in flying?
here's the stats I found on this forum:

RE: Best cyclic servos for a T-Rex450 V2
The JR DS285 are digital, so they are always trying to center themselves. That's the "buzzing" noise you are refering to. Don't worry, this is perfectly normal.
I didn't know they were THAT slow! Unless you are into aerobatic they should be fine, but I don't think they are strong or fast enough for 3D.
My friend and I both do helo setups for the LHS, and we've never had luck with the DS285. Some of them burned rather quickly. (Maybe just a bad batch???). I just changed my 9650 servo for a 3400g, and I prefer the 3400g, tail is more solid. One local guy who flys hard 3D says he prefer the 3400g.

I have DS285's on my 450XL but that's a scale project so I don't need the quick response or higher torque. my 450SE has the 65hbs (waiting for the gears to go cause I got a great deal on some metal gears for them).

can't wait to get this heli built so I can first hand see the difference in tail set ups.

RE: Best cyclic servos for a T-Rex450 V2
question, if digital servos are constantly trying to center, creating the chatter like the JR DS285's.... why doesn't either of my Futaba S9650's, or the DS3400G (all of which are digital) create the buzzing noise?

Good question. I guess each servo model has its own characteristics. My JR9000T and Hitec HS-5965MG (in a Losi 8T rc car) both chatter a lot. My 9254 in my Raptor 50 is also quite noisy. It's true that both the 9650 and 3400g are rather quiet....
