Default Puffed pack?

Hi,

I've been flying the align lipo pack that came with my TRex450SE v2 for about 15 cycles, and I was wondering something.

I've read about puffed packs and I was wondering what exactly does it means? I noticed that after a normal flight of hovering and a little FF for about 6-7 minutes, my pack gets quite warm and puffs a little bit. I also noticed that the pack itself seems to be soft after usage. Like if the stuff inside was melting a little, but after a little while, it cools off and gets back to the original state. (no more puffed and no more soft). Other that that, my lipo seeems really efficient. I get consistent good power for 6-7 timed flights.

So, is all of this normal? When a pack is puffed or not good anymore, does it means its puffed and soft all the time?

As always, thanks in advance for your answers!

Mat

A puffed pack has a Lipo cell that has gone bad. If you continue to use a pack with a puffed cell you could cause damage to yourself and heli. In other words if you have a puffed pack don't use it.

magimat,

I just flew my T-Rex for it's 6 flight with the stock lipo, and I am pretty sure the heat shrink around the battery just gets a pocket of air between it and the battery due to the heat. I noticed mine like that, then I tried rubbing my thumb along it one to see if it was air inside it, and if it was to push it out, and after it was back to normal. I am just assuming it is air so any more replies would be great.

Thanks
Joe

You are absolutely correct, nothing to worry about, the trapped air is simply expanding, that's why it goes back to normal when it cools. If it stays like that then you do have a problem!

I use to own Align lipo's a year ago the 22c puffs and I tried to use it as much as I can even though it was puffing but it wasn't a good idea. As it lost power one day and took my heli to the ground. Ever since then I don't use Align batts anymore... Just get FP, TP or Kong..
