This question is on a 430L motor and Align ESC that I "borrowed" from my 450 sa ARF kit and installed on a BEAM A4 heli. I figure because i have a trex 500, 600 and 2 450's its safe to ask my question here.
The motor on the BEAM is really hot after a full battery pack. It was just simple hovering for the trial flight. I really couldnt hold my finger on the motor very long before it hurt. wasnt smoking or anything like that just very very warm. I dont know how many theeth are on my main gear but i am using the 13 tooth pinion.
I believe the high temp is a problem but what should i look for to change/address this?
Thanks all.

Like Skarn, I have a stock TREx V2 with the 430XL motor (which is a higher kV rating than the 430L) running on a 12T pinion and motor temperatures have never gotten above 105F, even after 8 - 9 minutes of flight.
With all of those Helis, you must have a temperature probe; how hot is it getting? How warm are the ESC and LiPo packs? How long are you flying? How much are you putting back in your LiPo packs?

I hadnt considered all the aspects of it. I have no heat sink, I do have a temp probe and didnt think to use it. The ESC isnt really warm at all. I would say its close to all the other ESC's that I have. I an using ThunderPower Extreme V2 2200 3s and it runs to normal cutoff as it always has. I didnt notice the motor getting this hot in the Trex, just in the beam. I will run it again and take temps and report back.
Thanks all

My Trex 450 V2 gets very hot, and so does the ESC.
I am running for about 7 min. max on the Kong Power batteries
I can hold my fingures on it, but it is still pretty hot IMO.
???????
