after months of building , I have finally finished building my t-rex SE,, now I am scared to spool it up,, any last min. things to check befoe we hit the air, I guess all we can do it see what happens

fire her up and see what happens. i just finished my trex 450sa today and followed it exactly by the book. its my first build of a trex. will its my first build period. all the helis i bought till this point has been RTF.

when i fired it up for the first time (after an hour of painstaking checking everything) it flys perfect right from its maiden flight. this has helped me build my confidence in building trex. now its not gonna cost me 1000 bucks for a trex. i can get one going for under 400 with quality parts.

I watched a lot of finless bobs vids. I feel ok with the mechanical parts of the heli, trying to set up the dx6i has been the hard part, this is my first build, when I had my blade cp i crashed in the first 5 mins.. not knowing what i was doing, i hope the hours of sim time and count less hours trying to fly a cp+ will help.

I've been there, think we all have. Just do a proper pre-flight, check all your stick inputs are correct, do a slow spool up watching for vibrations, and balance issues. Push her to your first hover. As I just said above, make sure you really check everything over in your preflight and you should be golden.

When you land (temporarily) from a hover, don't take your eyes off the heli unless you have brought the throttle down to negative pitch or hit the throttle cut. I've had mine try to tip over twice from small gusts of wind. Even hit the blades but no damage as I could straighen it up quickly. It is also helpful to land on the front part of the skids to keep the tail rotor from striking the ground or vertical fin. Have fun and jump in there. Sim time is what it's all about!

Use training gear!

You never know what a new heli will do the first time you take off. And after a few minutes of spinup and or hover shut down and check the screws. You don't want to lose a heli because of a loose screw or some other minor thing.
Also if your gyro would happen to be reversed the heli will spin like crazy and that will result in a tipover most of the time.

If you have been flying one of the usual RTF cp helis, the REX will blow you away with how well it flys! Like everyone has said, check it over well then do it. If you smack it it aint the end of the world. An SA is realtively cheap to repair.

If you've checked your blade pitch and it's okay, and you've programmed your radio properly, there shouldn't be a problem. Take your time, spin 'er up and make sure nothing's wobbling, and away you go. If everything's set up properly, you'll probably be surprised by how nicely that heli flies. If you're really worried, put some training gear on.

Most people are afraid of that first crash, to avoid that, just take the heli to the roof and drop it. Or you just could swing a hammer at it ONE time. J/K

Just kidding.... Even after 19 years of flying RC, I still get the jitters while flying a new model or flying after a rebuild. It is normal. Just take it slow and if you see, or feel anything wrong, land inmediately.

After you have your first crash, or after you build up enough skill, then the jitters will diminish, but no go away completely.

That rush of the first flight is the reason for flying. I still get that rush everytime I start up my helis. It may fade with time but I hope not. I know guys that have 4 of the same heli but that confuses me, I have 9 helis and only 2 of them are the same, and 2 of them are scale. They all fly different and that's what keeps it exciting.

Dittos on Babyhuey's advice about the training gear. There is really no way to know if you have the initial pitch setting on the tail close enough to what it needs to be. I just finished my first build on a CopterX SE and when I fired it up the first time, it spun like a top. Fortunatly I had the training gear on and didnt duff it into the dirt. Once you get all the bugs worked out, (with the help of all the good folks on this forum!) your gonna love how it flies. So much more stable and responsive than the inexpesive RTF's

as a reply to my own post, after a few months of flying all is well. I have the basics down. wish I had more time to fly. I offically retired the cp +, a few weeks ago, I know everybody said so, but my trex is a whole other bird compared to the cp. still a little scared when I fly. I got talked into buying a plane a few weeks ago, wow flying a plane is so relaxing after starting out with a heli.

I started with planes first before helis but you are right, quite relaxing and the skills of each feed into the other very nicely.
