EXI 450 build, component selection help
Getting ready to start my EXI 450 build, the kit is in the mail. Now I am gearing up to order electronics. Going to go with a 430X motor or something equivalent(suggestions?).
As far as the ESC I was thinking 35amp, are the raiden or volcanos any good or do I need an Align or CC?
The cheapest I could find the Hitec HS-65mg servos is 36.00 each. Will the EXI servos from xheli work, what size would I need?
Is there another gyro I can use other than the Futaba?
I have done searches, but following the reading is tough because everyone tosses all the model numbers for components out there, but I dont know what they are or who makes them or if a noob needs them on there first 450 size heli.
This will be my second heli, I have a CX2 now, and I want to build this 450 up as opposed to buying a "rtf" so I know how to fix it and set it up properly in the future. Are these components somewhere I should just spend the big money so I dont have future problems? Or are the other lesser cost brands decent enough to get me by. I wont be doing any aerobatics for a while obviously, so will it pay to save some money on the cheaper components and upgrade later? I thought about buying a Blackhawk, but if I have to do all this work and electronic upgrades anyways I would rather build my own from scratch.

RE: EXI 450 build, component selection help
I say the motor and ESC, Sonix 3500kv and 30 ESC will do fine at much lower cost.
HS65MG are great but you could go cheaper but HS65MG is well known to work great. (Cheapest I'd go is SG90 but I went for $10/piece servo from hobbycity)
Telebee gyro works great and I get good feedback from GY401B (from this forum and others

for servos go to [link]http://shop.tomsrc.com/index.php?cPath=76[/link] the hs65mg are 31 bucks and the shipping only about 3 bucks.....for the motor if you really want power get the scorpion...
need batts? get the zippy 11.1v 2200mAH 25c they are great you cant go wrong my friend (heli pro) flys them in a $3000 heli and we both love them....o and there at hobbycity.com
i have the logictech 2100t gyro it is proven to be just as good as the gy401 for only $105 i havent herd great reviews on the telebee gyro so i personally would stay away..
over all i would just get a good setup with good gear like the hs-65's and not get the crap.......i will cost you less in the longrun..........believe me i am only 12 years old and holy poop it destroyed my wallet when i built my trex 450 but it was totally worth it and it was a merical when i finally got it to fly!
hopes this helps

well you could find Towerpro SG 90's cheaper elsewhere
but the fact is that they are really cheap
but they are good up to 20 flights at least (without crash)
then 20 flights, each flight has a risk of the servo failing in the mid air.

duly noted, I will take that under advisement. But the fact that I could go throught 9 of those for the price of the hitecs, cant pass it up.

RE: EXI 450 build, component selection help
cornerblade, the SG 90's survived
long on my Belt-CP
but after every flight since 20th battery you fly with SG90's
open them up and see if the chip has any deformation or liquid coming out of it.
Do the same when you crash too. You also need to check for the gears when you crash.
I had SG 90's on my Belt-CP for months and I only had to buy
one pack of 6 to fly for maybe half a year.

dude, you have those servos I was talking about. Any problems with them at all? Do you change them after a certain period of time? What other electronics are you running?

RE: EXI 450 build, component selection help
Spektrum has a lot of help
only go with 6i or 7 though
beceause a lot of people have them.
If you go Futaba like I did,
have fun whenever you get another heli.
Rx is about an inch square piece and costs $100 at least.
(With my budget, I have 2 Trex's and a receiver)
other than for the price, I suggest you to get the Futaba 6EX
an excellent transmitter.

RE: EXI 450 build, component selection help
well, that's a hell of a good deal
cause I got my 6EX here for good as new used 95 bux shipped, r617fs 100 bucks shipped on e-bay
I'm not really sure where's the best place to get it.
I usually use e-bay for more expensive deals because
paypal gives me full refund if anything goes wrong.

RE: EXI 450 build, component selection help
Would a DX6i work ok? I feel like I want to get the best radio I can, so I only have to buy 1, but then again knowing myself no matter how good of one I buy there is always something better I will want in the future. Plus saving up for a 7c will delay my maiden flight quite a bit...

RE: EXI 450 build, component selection help
well I only own Futaba 6EX
and I never ever had any problem with it [Except a very humid flight, water collected in my tx and rx and the entire setup reset in flight]
I find a lot of setup tips for DX6i and it's a lot cheaper.
If I knew the Futaba receivers are so expensive I woulda gone for DX6i.
The battery depend on your motor/ESC.
For me sonix 3500kv + 35A ESC
swells up the 1800mah 20C batteries, so better to go
with 25C if that's the case.
If the battery is overkill, the motor will overheat.
