2nd run on T-Rex 450 SE V2
with align 3550kv motor when I land the heli a buddy just says
"Hey it's smoking!"
I thought he was joking and turn around and see pink/purple smoke coming out of the
ESC.
Wire comes apart from the ESC and oen of the piece from the ESC falls off.
The heli is alright but I'm not satisfied with this ESC at all!
Recommend NOT using it at all.
I paid near $40 USD on this piece of junk
that goes out in flame at its 2nd run.
I only used velcro tape to keep it together to the heli and wth?!

Sorry to hear about that.... Once I tried other ESC's for my Trex 450 like the Castle and Kontronik ones, I will never go back to the Align ESC's or there motors... Its amazing the difference between them. The Align ESC's and motors just develop to much heat for my tastes, and the motors lack the torque... Do you think your ESC could be warrantied still ?

Ummm hate to tell you bro, but the Align ESCs are NOT junk! I've been flying them for about 3 years now without any issue and have bought one for my plank as well.
That sucks that you might have a bad one, but it's not the norm. There are many many people that fly them without issues.
And on my 450 and 500 the stock ESC never gets very hot nor the motor....the the XL motors do NOT lack torque!
What battery were you using?

Dude, they suck hands down ! The Align esc's and motors don't even come close to a quality product compared to others out there for nearly the same price. Once you do, you'll never go back ! Ask me how I know......

Guess we all have our opinions, but I also know....I had a Castle Creations one and returned it!
And the thousands of us that have never had a problem with the stock Align ESC's know they DON'T suck! Are there better? Sure, like a Jazz...but I'd never pay the price for one of them.
HarleyDave, what other esc and for the SAME price do you think is better?
Ask over in a heli only forum like helifreak and see what the vets think about the stock Align ESC...it's not just me.
The original poster got a bad one simple as that.

Your right about that and it all comes down to our opinions. Over on HeliFreak there is also a large number of guys who also won't look back to the Align ESC's also. Some of the guys at my field use a Hobbywing ESC for there Outrage G5 heli's equipped with a 3 amp BEC, 40 amps with 55 amp bursts for about $5.00 less than Align's 35 amp ESC's. The Hobbywing will also support 6-cell lipo's. Like I said, its hard to go back when you get to sample the juices of other fruits.

The motor deal, same thing. The Align 430XL is $55.99 on HeliDirect and for a buck less, the Scorpion HK-2221-6 V2 Brushless Motor (4400Kv), which is a prefered motor by many, would make the Align motor look like a its made for a toy !

If you need some more recomendations, I have a few more I can give ya or I'am sure there's others here that can offer you some more also.

HarleyDave,
I actully just picked up a HobbyWing Platinum. So far I like it but honestly, they both work great so it's hard to say one is better than the other.
Instead of just saying, "they suck" can you give a definitive example of what the Align ESC fails to do? I will say the only thing I can think of that the stock Align ESC is not good at is the governor mode.
On a side note: I assume you have a Harley? What do you have? I have an '03 Deuce and love it!

these things do go bad out of the box. i had a waypoint 35a esc smoked straight outta of the box. since i got it from a LHS (Ka-planes, Mike) he let me decide if i wanted my money back or get something else.
I love those guys. super nice. they didnt even make me send it back to them. I had a scorpion 55a esc that i bought from helidirect about 6 months ago. well it also let out that magic smoke and died. I contacted scorpion and they replaced it under warranty. super nice.
homeunt... where was that bought? was it brand new? contact align and get a new one.

Man that sucks!
I had that happen with an electrifly ESC (on my Blade CP). But I wouldn't say all Electrifly electronics suck! It's a bad apple....they happen.
Here is a prime example: http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=138882
This guy had his brand new Scorpion ESC fry! But again, does that mean all Scorpion electronics are bad?
Good luck getting back in the air!

Skarn, one thing that really ticks me off is that I spent that $45 to buy an ESC that does NOT fry up

like some of the cheaper ones like ESKY or Mystery do once a while. So I did have a good Sonix setup before

I bought the Align setup, just for the benefit and i'm saying this one more time

NEVER Align Electronics for me again
