Building my first trex 450. Sure wish I would have put the motor in before building up the frame! Anyway, I got the motor in but I can't adjust the mesh. No matter what I do the motor moves once I tighten up the bolts and what I am left with is what I think is too tight of a mesh between the pinion and main gear. I am new to brushless systems but it seems the way the wires come out the "top" of the motor, they might be causing some of the issues but I am not sure (hitting against the motor mount?).

Not sure what is too tight but I am use to have just a little bit of "wiggle" between any two gears, there is no wiggle, they are snug, maybe even tight.

-any thoughts or suggestions?

In bigger birds I take a piece of paper and place it between the pinion and the main gear. I press the pinion against the paper/main gear tight. Then pull the paper out. It should come out with a nice creased weave to it. This gives me the proper spacing. I have tried the same technique with my Trex 450 and my Cypher 3D with positive results. Maybe you can try it that way.

I usually go by feel and tighten the screws equally. The paper trick works good though. Also when you set your mesh, find the spot on the gear that binds the most when it rotates. Sometimes the gears aren't perfect so there are spots where it binds up more than others.

I have a question. Are you using any washers on the motor mount bolts. If not , try using some and this might help keep the motor where you want it while tightening the bolts. Once tight, loosen them just enough that you can move the motor around but still tight enough that when you spin the main gear to find the high spot it stays put. Set your mesh on the high point of the gear like others said then tighten up the motor. Hope this helps...

Yes, using washers. Still not quite sure what is causing me grief but this is what I ended up doing. Started with the motor totally lose and then tightened it up. Then I barely untightened one of the two screws (I don't remember which but it did make a difference). Then I loosened the other one just enough that I could move the motor. I then moved the motor a little at a time then I would tighted the looser of the two screws. I would still have to leave the mesh a little loose because once I tightened the other screw it would tighten the gear mesh even more. I finally (after like an hour of playing with it), got the screws locktited and the gear mesh to a point were I am satisfied with it.

I have spent all my life around quality electric RC cars and never have I had such an issue. I will say that I have never had a brushless setup and the fact that the wire come out the "top" of the motor, I suspect that may be part of the issue I was running into. Overall I am pleased with the Align Trex 450 sport super combo kit and I am looking forward to getting it in the air once my batteries get here...
