Default Ys 45 2-stroke

I have a YS 45 side exhaust with a stock YS Muffler.
Propped it with a Master Airscrew 10X7 3-blade prop.
on the ground it spins @12,000-12,500.
Checking YSperfromance.com...it shows a 18,000 rpm top end for that engine.

Is this prop alright...or should I throw a 9X7 3-blade on?

The 3 blade is a difficult conversion--- Try an APC 9x8 or similar.

Keep in mind though that the YS-45 is designed to be run (Primarily) with a tuned pipe like Macs 7.5CC, and when tuned properly is one of the most powerful 2 cycles out there, just behind the Jett-50 and West-50! 17.5K on a 9x8 would no be rare--

On the stock muffler it is similar to the OS-46FX

Here is what I got on my YS-45 and stock muffler:

YS-45 9x8 Stock 20% OS-8 15.1 K

Does anyone know where I can pick up a NIB YS.45?? A local guy used to carry a couple a few months back, but now he's not sure if ha has any left. Weird since it's his own shop/home.. I know they aren't produces anymore, just hoping there are a couple somewhere.

Thanks Shane

I have a ys engine and am not sure of what model, it came off a helicopter and I stripped it down to be used on fixed wing aircraft. on the mounting arm it does have 80 st printed on it could this be an 80 st? I also would like to know where I could get the prop collar that fits over the shaft bushing,

Hi Wood489,

I have recently converted a YS91st to aero, I believe that the 91st is a bored out 80st and should have the same output shaft threads. Here are the part numbers I used to convert the 91st with the output shaft thread of 8x1mm.

Drive washer YS part number F9323
Drive washer retainer YS Part number F9324
Reach through prop nut Tru-Turn part number TT-0813-A, (these prop nuts are designed to take the Tru-Turn alloy spinners).

Hope this helps,

Regards, SydC.

I have a YS 45 Rear Ex with a pipe and I can not get it to idle. It keeps loading up with fuel and floods. It runs great otherwise. Dose anybody have an adjustment procedure or have any idea how to get this thing to idle.

It sounds as though your low speed setting is too rich. It is actually really easy to adjust, on the underside of the engine, there is a larger brass screw, this is the pump adjustment as well as your low speed idle adjustment. To lean your mixture, turn the screw clockwise1/8 to 1/4 turn at a time.

If you would like I can send you the factory instructions thru e-mail.

I thought so...I have tried to adjust the bottom screw but I may have been adjusting to much at a time... That would be cool if you can send me the factory instructions... Send to [email protected]...

Thank you I will try your suggestion out tomorrow...

10x7 mas (couldnt find an apc 10x6) omega 15% macs nitro pipe....12 inches from glow plug to apex on pipe 14,400.

I had a hard time tuning this engine, i almost gave up. I I referred to the manual for the factory low end settings, and in my case they were way off, i had to go in several turns. It kept loading up like a sob then finally i went extreme and turned it in a few times and it ran like a champ IMO
Is there any other mufflers/exhausts i could use that would give me more performance?

I really need some help on the ys45. It sruns lean on the top end after getteing adjusted like maybe its losing pressure? I can't get the idle correct due to the eratic adjustments to the top end. I suppose a copy of the factory instructions may help? This is a older engine, but always run really good. Any help is appreciated.

How fresh is your check valve? That'd be the 1st place I look. Beyond that, take the pump apart and make sure everything is clean / gaskets tight and clean / pay particular attention to the plunger / little silicone nipple. When all's right those YS's are some of the most consistent running engines you'll see. The throttle response should be flawless and instantenous every time.

Also, there could be a foreign matter in one of the small fuel / air passages in the carb / pump body. A piece of monofilament fishing line works well to clear those up.

Some years ago, one of my 45's was acting up and I just couldn't adjust it for the life of me. I tweaked the regulator screw and the high speed screw to no end. I could kick myself when I found out, all it needed was a fresh OS #8 glow plug! Just because it glows and fires doesn't mean the glow plug is good. Rule out the easy stuff first if you haven't already like bad glow plugs or bad fuel, then look for dirt in components.
