Currently using H9 Micro Tach. Inexpensive, small (can be a disadvantage too).
I've never seen an optical tach that was "off" so take your choice.

I have a Hobbico tach and it has been working great for appx 3 years now with no problem, and it wasnt very expensive. Tower hobbies sells them. It can read either 2 or 3 blade props.
