Supertigre GS40?
Hi does anyone have tach readings for a GS .40... I want to find out what I can expect out of this engine
if you can include what prop you run and fuel mix, or even if theres a particular plug that you find works well with this engine, that will help too!!!
cheers

RE: Supertigre GS40?
I have 4 ST 40's . A 10x6 is about the largest prop to use . I like 3 blade 9x6 for the sound and get about 13,000 RPM. I use a Fox RC long Idle Bar plug. It gives the ST's the right timing. And 5% nitro with 18% blend is perfect.

RE: Supertigre GS40?
Hello HaveBlue, how do you do??
MY Supertigre GS 40....
Fuel 80% methanol and 20% castor (no nitro)( this gem do not need nitro at all!!!)
prop
APC 10X6
standart Silent Muffler
14.000 rpm in sea level.
this engine likes a hot plug, and i tested on it the OS #8, and the OS #3, and it loved both!!
this engine is superb, you´ll like it very much, its very powerful, docile and very economical on the fuel consumption (same as a .20 or .25....)
Use at least 20% all castor in your fuel, and it will last you pratically "forever".
Its really a great design, and it will surprise you, because its HOT PERFORMANCE, very good price and metallurgy and by the fact that this ST 40 will outlast many many modern .46 and other premiun priced engines of very known brands that costs twice or more its price....
best regards from Brazil

RE: Supertigre GS40?
thanks for the replies , I appreciate them and these are more the results that I am hoping for , I had just read the RCU review before posting my question in this forum and I was a bit worried as the review wasn't inspiring showing just over 12,000 on a 10 X 6..my magnum gpa 40 does 11,500 with that prop...and if the ST could only pull 12,000 I would have been very dissapointed
I will probably break it in this coming weekend ( weather permitting...rain is forcast) as soon as I get a chance I will post my results for comparision
again thank you speedster and stg61abc
BTW I picked the ST because I have the G90 and that turns up very well and no transition problems to boot.....hope the 40 turns out as good!!

Hi HaveBlue, how do you do?
Dont worry, you will like very much this engine...
Dont rush your break in, do with pacience, and you will be rewarded with a very fine motor....
Short runs of 2/3 minutes each, plenty of oil (22% or more).....
The engine tested by RCU dissapointed me too.... problably tach problems or higher altittude maybe...
in the users review you will find some highers rpm than those that i obtained with mine, a pal from germany use his GS 40 to racing and obtain close to 15.000 rpm with no nitro at all...
best wishes and good flyings.....
ps:i will try to copy this review for you
(read below)
Super Tigre GS-40 Ring
]Everything OK after 3 years of full throttle.
My G40 still runs very powerfull on an Q500 Model at 20/80 Castor Fuel. Lately I tried an Jett Supersport Muffler with an 10x6 APC and got 14900 Rpm on the ground (stock silentmuffler: 13400rpm). In the air it unloads a lot. Topspeed (Radar-Gun) 162 Mph, horizontal 150mph. The 10x7 APC is faster in the air (170mph) but with the Jett Muffler it is not easy to set up. This muffler is made für ground RPM around 16000-18000 but it works perfect with the 10x6 APC. I prefere the 10x6 for Q500 Sport in Germany, where 10" props must be used. It's easy to set up and accelerates very well. The G40 delivers the power, which OS 40/46FX users are dreaming of. Even with the stock muffler. He doesn't need any nitromethane but he likes castor oil and high oil contents (17% or more). The many Set-up problems I heared from may be caused of low oil content and the usage of synthetic oil. In the last winter I disassembled the engine, to remove the carbon on top of the piston and the combustion chamber. Everything else looked ok and it will run for many years if I don't make a stupid mistake during the flights. After 3 Years of full throttle and many gallons of fuel I beleave this engine cannot die.

RE: Supertigre GS40?
Thats very interesting... I wouldn't have thought of using the Jett super sport, but I am considering the jett ports muffler
I thought this engine could be good as I learned they use it in racing.. so i was expecting around 14,000 rpm , I will probably run with a 10 X 6 but might even try a 9 X 7 or 9 X 8 depending how the I do at the end of breaking it in... I do have a nice bolly tuned pipe I might even try later down the track!
thanks for that review..it was even more inspirational...so I'll go and do the initial break in now!!!!

RE: Supertigre GS40?
finally got to do the initial break in
prop = 10 x 7 APC
fuel = homebrew 5% w 20% oil 50/50 castor/ syn (coolpower blue)
plug = ST medium
temp = 27 celsius
didn't get a humidity reading but it was moderate
300 asl
with HS needle two turns out was taching over 12,000 rpm average of 11,900( running very rough and moving up and down within that rpm range)
I LIKE IT !!!!!!!

RE: Supertigre GS40?
I'm running stock GS 40 with a ScrewMaster 11x4 on a high wing. Much better performance than the 10x6 APC I use to run. Don't have any tach readings but they are higher than the 10x6 and rev is quicker. Always used 15% fuel in it and OS #8 plug. I'm about to convert it to diesel.
