50cc Class readings please.
I have a new ZDZ 50NG and I'm wondering what type of readings others are getting with this engine and other 50 class motors.
I have about 7 1/2 gallons thru mine. The last 2 1/2 was Amsoil 100 to 1 premix that I mixed at 40:1. I was informed by a fellow flier that this should have only been mixed at 100:1 because it has added additives to be able to run at this low oil content. Anyways I'm turning a Menz s 22 x 10 at 6000 rpms. Seem really low to me, Thrust hp says I'm only getting about 24.5 static thrust. |
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
I am getting 7300 rpm on a Brison 3.2 and 21x8 NX propeller
|
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
On my 50 NG:
22-8 Bambula----6400 rpm 21-8 Bambula (1/2 inch off each end of the first prop)---6900 rpm 22-8 proZinger--- 7400 rpm got a Mens 22- 8 coming to try zonk |
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
Hi,
Menz 21x10 "S" @ 7100 rpm. +75 degrees F.....nice day. Amsoil series 2000 2-cycle mixed as recommended at 50-1. Unlimited on my 17 lb Sukhoi and some speed too! Bisson pitts muffler with the pinched ends cut off. I think I gained about 100 rpm from this mod. The high speed needle is tweaked to max rpm and the low speed needle is as lean as I can go and still maintain a decent transition. I do not like running rich......it fouls plugs, makes low power, makes carbon deposits, and can cause rings to stick/seize. Thanks John Hello, More 3.2 numbers Same equipment and gas. This time at an OAT of 35 degrees F giving me a density altitude of 1000 ASL. Beautiful December day! My previous numbers were at an OAT of 75 degrees F giving me a density altitude of 4000 ASL. Interesting how the power went up in the colder denser air and could not compensate for the extra power needed to move the prop through the denser air. Menz S 21x10 6800 rpm Menz S 22x10 6600 Menz U 22x10 7200 Menz U 23x10 6200 Bambula 22x8 6400 Bambula 22x10 5700 Bambula 20x10 7300 Thanks, John Hello, More 3.2 numbers Same equipment and gas. I removed the 5/8" exhaust pipes and soldered 1" pipes to the Bisson muffler. A little more noise...doesn't matter where we fly. 200 rpm boost in power! I use Amsoil Series 2000 2-cycle racing oil mixed as directed at 50-1. This time at an OAT of 32 degrees F giving me a density altitude of 1500 ASL. Beautiful February day! Measured with a TNC tach. Menz 22x10 "S" 6800 RPM 24 lbs thrust as measured with my spring scale known to be accurate in rough water weighing freshly caught fish! This is in my Sig Sukhoi that weighs 17 lbs. Nice performance! Thanks John Hi, May 2004. 72 degree F day. Menz 22x10 "S" @ 6800 rpm....I get 7000 rpm when the engine isn't fully warmed up. I think I'm in the fat part of the torque curve! Nice engine. John |
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
Ok, good friend gave me a 22-8 Menz to try on the ZDZ 50 NG
7200 rpm static 16-1/4 lb DP edge the menz is head and shoulders the better prop for this plane compared to the others in my previous post, flew smoother, faster and pulled harder in the up lines. Also better control response at 3D settings, the plane locked in better in elevators and harriers, and high alpha knife edge was a lot easier. I have always know that props can change the characteristics of a plane but I was very pleased and surprised with the difference the Menz made on my set up zonk |
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
I have a ZDZ 50 older version not the NG with about 1 gallon though it. I am getting 6100 RPM with a Zinger 22X8. My ZDZ 50 is also in a DP Edge 540.
|
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
Gents,
I tached my ZDZ 50RV (i.e. the slightly older version) today and got 6750 rpm with a Menz 22x8. The engine is muffled with a BCM wrap-around pitts. All the best, Fredrik |
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
Fredrik, what oil are you using? I have the same engine, I seem to be having a problem with oil dripping down on the spark plug after the first flight of the day and fouling the plug. I am using Pennsoil two cycle oil for air and water cooled engines mixed at 50:1. I am not having problems with carbon just oil, the electrode is a tan color.

RE: 50cc Class readings please.
I'm using premixed fuel intended for air cooled 2c engines from a local manufacturer named Aspen. They call it "environmental petrol" (alkylate petrol, the exhausts don't smell as bad as from normal petrol) including 2% synthetic, not specified, oil. They have some info in English on their web site, www.aspen.se. I have no noticeable oil residues on the spark plug and the engine runs flawlessly.
Regards, Fredrik |
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
OK here are a couple of more readings
The same ZDZ 50 NG as in my previous posts on my DP Edge MSC 22x8----6700 RPM Nice prop, quiet, pulls nice at lower RPM and unlimited vertical-not as fast as the Menz but much better than the Prozinger Or Bambula Brisson 3.2 with about 30 hours of running i just aquired on a WH Extra Speical--17.5 pounds Mejzlik 22-8 Carbon Fibre----7200-7300 RPM, Unlimited vertical and very fast in an upline, even on the heavier plane!! Nice combo! MSC 22x8---6400 RPM quiet and nice pull at lower RPM , Vertical is unlimited, steady but not fast--now the weight and slightly less power than the ZDZ start to show. IMHO, just a bit too much prop on this heavier plane if you like to go straight up alot. Got a couple of 3W 22-8's coming and a Mejzlik 23-8, will let you know zonk |
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
54cc Poulan conversion with Ralph Cunninghams synchrospark ignition. 40:1 mix with 87octane gas.
Pro zinger 22-8 was turning around 6600-6700RPM. Thats the only prop I ever tried in that size. Pro Zinger 20-10 was turning 7200RPM. All this at 6000' above sea level in Denver. |
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
Just in, I had to send my ZDZ 50 NG back to RC Showcase because of a cracked engine. they sent me out a new 50 ng and after the initial run up I wa pulling 6690 rpms using my same glowbee tach and a newley balanced MSC 22x8 prop.
today i have about 2 gallons of penzoil mix through it and i'm getting 6900 rpms. Power is definitely much stronger than the other NG, the uplines are very fast and know I can hover down low (very short periods of time) and punch out with good authority. If the power gets any better i'll probaly start touching the tail on the Wild Hare Edge. |
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
ZDZ 50 Ng 7280 rpm with a Zinger 22x8 and with less than 3 gallons of fuel used.
|
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
Get rid of the Zinger and try an MSC, Menz, 3w or even a Mejlik. These props are twenty times better than the zingers simply because they are much much stiffer and have really good effieciency numbers. They cost about 5 bucks more (except for the Mejlik) but they are worth there weight in gold to a Zinger.
Your rpm numbers will drop greatly but the overall thrust will drasticaly increase. You would would not believe how much of a difference a prop can make on these gassers. |
RE: 50cc Class readings please.
If the prop pulled any better it would probably destroy my airplane, a 14.9 pound H9 CAP 232 and I am getting 27 pounds of static thrust when checked using a fish scale tied to the tail of the airplane. If I ever break the prop I will probably try some other brand.

RE: 50cc Class readings please.
I posted this somewhere else, but its pretty impressive for a Chainsaw engine, Homelite 55cc out of a 330 Model Saw. I have 30 bucks and some fab time invested--Runs as well as my G-62, at least on the bench:
Zinger 22x10------------------6800rpm Master Airscrew 20x10------- 7600rpm This is at 900ft elevation, about 50-55 degrees. Actual in the air trials will have to wait for warm weather--plan to install in a Giant scale (92"ws) BT-13. |

Fuji Imvac BT-50 EI Gas:
Mejzlik 22x8 almost 2 gallons with Amsoil at 50:1 -- 7100rpm solid I would have never bought this motor, I won it at a funfly, I must say at only 6-8 ounces more than the DA-50 RTF and over $150 less it rocks pretty well. :D |

Duro-power 52cc Conversion engine. Got it for $80. I dont know what fuel mixture was used. These readings were taken by Gaines Smith (he did the conversion on this engine). Engine was tached with 2 different meters on different days.
9000+ RPM with an (OLD) dynathrust 20x10 Peak was 9400 :) Idle 1500Rpm All up wieght is 6lbs [link=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7063498753981003477]Engine Video 1[/link] [link=http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1899399485091143431]Video 2[/link] The plane for this engine is under construction at the moment.. these figures were from a bench test. The engine has never been in the air. |

RE: 50cc Class readings please.
I have the same engine and prop. Do you know what your needle settings are? I get about 6900 on a Menz 22x8. I think my high needle is rich. I'm at 1 3/4 high, 1 3/4 low.
