AP09

I ran my AP09 again today on the bench, and got the following results:

Master Scimitar 7*4 12,700
MA 7*4 14,100
MA 7*3 15,000
Cox 6*4 grey 15,100

Amazing how the Scimitar loaded the engine up over the normal Master 7*4.

This engine has been run about 30 minutes all up on the bench. The piston/liner fit feels good - a nice plop. There is a bit of slop at TDC. The bearing feels a bit rough.

If I can find an APC 7*4 I'll run that and update this post. Similarly a Master 8*3.

RE: AP09

I got hold of a new Master GF3 7*4 and ran that on the AP09. Result was a steady 14,300 rpm on the bench. These props seem to be a bit thinner than the usual MA props.

Got a modified AP09 recently, it has a Nelson head conversion, control line /free flight needle valve and a venturi 7 mm ! ! in diameter
Tacho'ed it on a Russian F2D prop on 10 % nitro, 20 % castor, and with bladder pressure (of course ), 22,240 rpm.

RE: AP09

They can wind up pretty good. My AP .09 went 15,200 on a MA 7-4" and 16,900 without the muffler. I never tried it with the F2D prop yet but my AP .15 (.135 really) was going 24,900 rpm with a bit bigger contol line carb I made, about 6 mm and on muffler pressure. I quit using that because the rod bushing was getting a lot of play in it after about three runs. The .09 has a much smaller and lighter piston so it may be ok. Never thought of making a Turbo plug head for the .09. I roughed out a few blanks. 14 I think. Just to compare-I like to do that, my OS FP .10 was 17,200, my OS LA .10 was 17,500, my Tee Dee .09 16,400 All these with no muffler, and a TT GP .10 13,500 with a muffler. because I had it in a plane and didn't want to take it off. Unfortunately the wing folded up last fall. I was heartbroken, I had it since 1990.

OK since at least two other people like these motors I will put some pics in. The one with the black head is the .15 (.135) I made a header to use a pipe too.
