Default drop in engine?

Hello all,
I was wondering what a good drop in engine would be for the mgt. I have a mgt .21 now and I drove a 8.0 I hate mine now LOL. I love the power of the 8.0 but wondered if thier was an OS engine that might drop right in for me. I realize it would be wise to snag a 8.0 tranny. Thanks!

You want a screamin drop in motor for the mgt then either get the LRP 28 or LRP 30. Forget about the 8.0.

What header will fit the LRP28? I have that, and an OS30VG, and the header I have does not fit either. I had a Sirio27XL in my MGT, but that engine has a smaller exhaust port.

An LRP 28 or 30 is faster than the 8.0? I find that hard to believe as they're only about 2/3 the size of an 8.0. I don't know why you'd need anymore than the 8.0 has stock anyhow.

I couldn't find the stock specs on the 8.0 such as hp or rpm's, but the LRP .30 has 4.12 hp at 33,200 rpm's......... I really don't see the 8.0 beating that since alot of people with an 8.0 switch over to the LRP .28 or .30, but hey I could be wrong.........

Just because an engine is bigger, does not mean it has more power, or can go faster.
In this case, I believe the 8.0 has more torque than the other engines listed. Basically, torque gets you truck moving, and hp makes you truck go faster.
Look at dyno results for any engine, nitro, gas, or diesel. Max torque comes at lower rpm's, where as max hp comes at higher rpm's.
This does not take gearing into play. That is a whole other can to open.

That's what I figured. I know the 8.0 isn't the highest revving motor, but man does it have the torque!!! Considering how heavy this beast is I'd rather have torque than horsepower. I'm not sure of the 8.0's exact ratings, but I know its touted as having 5+hp. Their is an old saying in the full scale car world, their's no replacement for displacement. I'm pretty sure, for the most part, it rings true with RC engines too.
