Default Hanger 9 Edge 540/Extra 330-Zenoah G62

Greetings,
I have been getting much "flak" on my plans to put a G62 in my Hanger 9 Edge 540. I am only really planning on using the plane for sport flying, and basic aerobatics.....EVERYONE thinks I should use a bigger engine, even though I told them the instructions actually show a G62 being mounted to the plane......they say I am nuts!
There arent many engines in the 75cc range other than the Zenoah GT-80 ( which I havent heard good things about ),the ZDZ-80, and the 3W-75 which seems quite overpriced.........plus I like the fact that many people I know already use Zenoah engines and love the reliability.
Your thoughts would greatly be appreciated...........
Blair

I have a GT-80 in mine. Wait, cahnge that. HAD a GT80 in mine (replaced with a DA 100). Anyway the GT-80 flew it fine. It would hoverf and torque roll and pullout of a hover. I never got down low with the hover because I could "shoot" out if something happened. It lazily climbed out. I would recommend nothing less than a GT-80 on this plane. I do not think you will be happy with this combo. Now Im sure that a G-62 will fly the plane, but anything other than a few loops (not very big loops either) will be about the max. Why would you want to fly that plane on such little power. That is the same engine that Wild Hare says to use on their 85"edge. I am always the kind of person that say to try something that no one else has just to be different. Experiment. I am still like that, but I dont really think you would be happy. Heck I might even make you a pretty good deal on a GT-80 if you were interested.

Blair,
Your G62 plan will work for IMAC basics , sport flying, etc. Dick Pettit in RC Report reviewed the H9 330S with the g62 and said basically it was satisfactory, no unlimited verticals, capable of some low power 3d manuvers and such.
Would I do it? Heck no! I have a DA100 in my H9 330S and to me it is awsome! I can't tell you how nice it is to have major power to spare. But my plane was a package deal and if cash is not a major issue the ZDZ80 would be a great combo without the higher cost DA100 .

A ZDZ 80 seems to be the best match for the H9 planes. I enjoyed mine with the GT-80 but the only reason it had that motor was because I got a heck of a deal on it and never to the time or money to change it out. And the only reason a DA 100 is on it now is to break it in so i can put it on a bigger plane next season. Anyway, good luck with you decision.

Hi Blair, Someone above put it well. It will fly fine on the G-62 and will be a good sport flyer and do basic IMAC stuff. If you want to do 3D, or more advanced IMAC flying, its not the best choice. It all depends on your expectations from the Edge.

I have seen your plane with a G62 in it. If all you want is to sport fly go for it. This guy tossed his plane all over the sky with the G62. I had to rethink the G62 in this plane. Dennis

I knew there were others out there flying it with a smaller engine. I hear alot of talk about "unlimited vertical" but I dont think any one of us can see "unlimited"!!! Bascially, I am only looking to "sport fly" with it....I have other planes that I can "3-D" with, although I am not a big 3-D type of flyer. Thanks for all the input guys.....

When I first got my h-9 extra I also went with the g-62 and im sorry to say it would hardly get off the ground. I then after about 3 flights bit the bullit and bought the gt-80 and never looked back!! But now that im used to that i want the ZDZ 80 lighter and much more powerful it should really wake up the plane.
