Default JR's Answer to Futaba MZ14

Dear Mike,

JR has ever been a leader in R/C radio technology.X3810,PCM 10S, PCM 9X II all are marvels of technology. When are we gonna see a MZ 14 Killer ? Will JR be going for 15 channels? or what else killer features they will be putting in.

I dont have any details to share. JR is of course not ignoring the 14MZ either. Just want to be sure what they do next is the best foot forward.

They already have a answer it is the 10X,, 14MZ is a money radio, you can go to the field and look pretty,,,that is the advantage, OH yeah and you can take a picture of your model too [sm=confused.gif]

I don't like getting into these sorts of discussions.. but I wonder how many people buy a given radio just to have the high end radio.

Ask yourself.. Do you USE the features of the radio you have, or do you just have it to tell people you have it.

I personally use my 9303 for just about everything these days except my jets that NEED 10 channels.

I use the 9C for everything. It does more than I need and I couldn't be happier, except when someone who has a 10x is trying to rub it in that he has 10 channels and I only have 9. When that happens I can counter with "Futaba has 4 more channels than any Junk Radio."

Personally I fly Futaba because they donated a 7CAP to my club. Horizon didn't even bother because "it isn't their policy". The 7Cap was raffled off and made a ton of money to be put to use for VRCFC's 22'nd Annual Ray Gordon Memorial Jumbo Fly-in

I agree Doug, I am just not tapping out my 9C and looking to the light side for possibilities. 9303 looks good and so does 10x. The 14mz does not suit me for a number of reasons. 9Z?

I have both 10x and 9303
The feature which I like best about these is the instant access to flight controls .
For example
count nunber of steps to get to the adjustment pages for aileron /elev and rudder .
JR10--- turn on radio-hit ENTER- poke in #13- you are there for ail expo/dual rates.-turn pages for elev/rudd.
9303---turn on radio-hit enter- you are there!
How does that work?
On the 9303 --the last functions you worked with -- will be the first thing brought up when hitting ENTER (not LIST)
Advantage ?
At the field -lets say you are again, fine tuning any of the 3 flight functions ail-elev-rudd.
After setting up say--elevator expo- you simply hit ENTER or turn off the radio till you are ready to fly.
Now go fly -
Let's say the expo was not quite right -
just hit ENTER- bingo-you are right back at the page you last worked with.
Try that on other radios ---
I did a comparison "poke" on the new Futaba - lovely radio, however ------------------.

If you think that's easy, try the 9C. It's easier. You'll be amazed. It's a great radio.

I don't like how the switches are assigned for you in JR radios, I prefer the Futaba 9 where you can program your things wherever you want them.

I also have a JR 9303 it is an awsome radio! You can program the switches to do what you want them to. It is very easy to program and and it feels good in your hands. I guess if I ever hit the Lotto I would get a 14MZ so I can play tetris between rounds or somthing.

If your into Giant Scale airplanes, the 14 MZ offers several significant advantages and in fact is not an expensive radio. You do not require match boxes, Power Pacs, etc. I spent 500.00 on a Duralite power pack alone in order to control multiple ganged servoes. I no longer need it since the 14MZ allows you to setup 12 channels individually. Selecting a different channel at the field takes all of about 15 seconds and does not require going inside the airplane to turn dials on the reciever. Switches on the transmitter can be positioned where ever you would like them to be for both helis and airplanes. If you fly with dual rates or use switch activated programmed manuvers, the MZ can provide audio promps on switch activations. Pre programed airplane control surface configurations in the MZ make set ups infanently easier. There are many other features offered in the MZ. These are a few that were of particular interest to me. I believe that most of us would agree that both JR and Futaba offer very good high quality products and I'm sure JR will be forth coming with their own inovative ideas in the not to distant future. We all bennifit from improved techknowledgy.

I agree JR, Futaba, and Airtronics offer good products. Ya'll know why I fly Futaba, but why do ya'll fly JR?( Please don't bash Futaba in the process, it will make this thread turn into a BIG mess even more)Futaba does offer a superior product in the 14MZ, but I don't need any more that I have in my 9C right now so I will continue to rave about it.

My freind is a "die-hard" JR fan....He placed Fifth at the XFC, and he used a 10X for that competition. I personally dont like the 10X ( weight ), but he also has a 9303, and that radio "feels" really nice! He is always "Bagging" on Futaba stuff, but he knows he likes my stuff!
I work part time at a hobby shop, and "test" alot of the new stuff that comes out. I have mostly Futaba stuff ( 9CAPS, 6EXAS, 9Z ), But I also have a JR Quattro, and a JR X378. I like the X378....its a real nice radio.
I had a Futaba 14MZ on my kitchen table for a few weeks, playing with it....it is really neat, but as a "Sport Pilot", I could find no real reason for me to keep it. I like alot of the features it has, but I know I wont use half of them!
Horizon is a great company to deal with.....and I dont hesitate to sell any of their products to people....just because I use Futaba, doesnt mean JR isnt a great product.
Bottom line ( in my opinion ) is that you should buy what you like, and go have fun!

Well said BR289 !! It is a hobby, and we are all in it to have fun. I have a 10X and have had it over 5 years and STILL have not tapped out all of the features. We all should buy what we like and all get along.

What I would like to see JR do is when they come out with their latest greatest radio, allow it to have a built in programmer and make their servos programmable, that would be great IMO, and eliminate the matchbox.

I doubt it will happen for a very specific reason.

The programmability takes away from the precision. In order to provide programmability, you have to increase the deadband. This is something JR is simply unwilling to give up and I agree with them 100%. The programmable servos from the other guys have just over 7 TIMES the deadband of the JR 8611. I'll stick with the Matchboxes and increased accuracy personally.

I would like to see a servo arm --which has a adjustable length feature plus a full tooths rotational adjustment .
Say 1/8" length and up to one tooth rotation.
Maybe made using precision metal cutting process for precise movement in adjustment.
JR does have a new metal arm with the rotation adjustment (I think)-but with the slight length adjustment - it would do away with any need for electrical futzing-.
Personally -tho I have Matchboxes -and they are easy to use -- I have found I can get perfect matches without using them .
Elevators are easy - but some aileron setups take a few moments tweaking linkage length and angles - but if the geometry was done correctly during construction - all adjustments are minute.
