Default Long nose YS61s engine

I recently aquired 2 Raptor 60s. Both with YS61S engines. One had the engine installed, one did not. After rebuilding them both, I attemped to put the cooling fan on the uninstalled engine. After spinning the cooling fan on, I discovered that there was not enough thread to put on the jam nut. Hmm, must be the wrong cooling fan. Ordered a new one, only to discover it was the same as the old one. I then pulled the engine from the one that was already installed, and discovered that the case on that one is about 3/8" shorter from the carb to the back plate. Other than that, they look the same. 61S on both of them. One for heli, one for plane?
Any help appreciated!
Thanks,
Bjorn

Not sure about the 60 but with the 50 if you put the washer between the engine and fan it wont go together right.

Pull a manual and see if you're building the fan/clutch stack correctly.

Heli engines have shorter crank shafts generally, though I've not tinkered with the particular engines you have.

I am not familiar with the exact engines you have, but by your own description, I'd have to say yes, you have an airplane version and a helicopter version of the same engine. If the one with the longer "nose" has a "helicopter" head on it, somebody was duped into believing they were buying two heli engines. The one with the longer "nose" should have a normal (airplane) head.

Thanks Guys,
Andy, the 60 is the same as the 50. No room for the washer. I screwed th fan on the engine to check the length overall, and the whole mess was about 3/8" too long. I guess I'll just have to look for the right engine. I'm not stuck, if I bust up the one with the good engine, I'll just switch them!
Thanks again,
Bjorn
