Hitec HS-5625MG Vs. Futaba S9252 Servo
Well, I've ordered my Raptor 50 V2 kit and OS 50 engine, pretty much settled on the Futaba 9CHP RX/TX and the GY401/S9254 gyro/servo combo for the tail rotor, now I'm trying to decide on cyclic & collective servos. I think I want to go with a digital, high torque servo, and am considering these two...
HS-5625MG:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXUZ77&P=M
S9252:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXVZ39&P=7
The Hitec looks like a much better servo, and it's cheaper (metal gears, almost as fast as the Futaba, and more torque)!
If anyone has any comments, suggestions, or personal experience with these servos, I'd love to hear it!
Thanks,
Paul

RE: Hitec HS-5625MG Vs. Futaba S9252 Servo
both are fine servo's, but out of the 2 i believe i'd choose the futaba, simply because i've had such good luck with their products in the past, and there really is no beating a 9252 equipped raptor 50.

RE: Hitec HS-5625MG Vs. Futaba S9252 Servo
I've had bad luck with futaba servos- in my helis, cars and planes. I've had two 9253 go south south so I switched to the Hitec 5925 MG for the tails- so far, so good.

RE: Hitec HS-5625MG Vs. Futaba S9252 Servo
the hitechs are good but the metal gears do wear out and get sloppy. Ive been using standard JR servos on my tail for the past several months, they work fine with the Futaba 401 gyro.

RE: Hitec HS-5625MG Vs. Futaba S9252 Servo
There are too many stories about the 5600 series of Hitec digitals going bad for me to put them in a heli. I had two 5645s one didn't center well at all and the other quit during bench set up of a new plane. I have many Hitec servos and while their specs look good, they don't live up in actual use. All three of my current helis have Futaba servos with Hitec Supreme receivers. 9252s are my preferred choice but my Evo 50 could only afford 9001s at the time of assembly. My R50V2 has 9252 on collective and 9202s on cyclic. All have 401/9254 combo.
Other opinions may vary!

Get the Futaba 9252s, they have coreless motors whereas the Hitecs do not. My Raptor 60 has 9252s and they are very crisp.

I use Hitec 5975's on my 50v2, they are exellent. Coreless motor, fiber reinforced plastic gears. The 6975 has even more torque, but I have not tried those.

RE: Hitec HS-5625MG Vs. Futaba S9252 Servo
I have used the 5625MG servos in an H9 Edge 540 and had problems with centering, gears getting sloppy and 1 servo went hard over right out of the box, decided I would not use those servos in my new R50 V2.
I put the 9252's in my Raptor and that would be my recomendation for you. Spend a few more bucks up front, you"ll be glad you did.

Yeah, the S9252 is meant for a 4-cell pack only... check out this Futaba digital servo page for some 6-cell servos....

RE: Hitec HS-5625MG Vs. Futaba S9252 Servo
I am also wondering the same thing about servos for my Rappy 50 that I have finally decided to fork out the extra $100 or so to get it......I hate when I decided that I'm going to get the 5625's that are only $54.99 from Tower, and then I find this thread, and find that they aren't up to what they seemed to be from what I could tell.....
I just dunno....
I would like to have good quality servos, but some here on RCU know, that I'm cuttin that grass for the mula, I guess I could just make another week or two JUST FOR THE SERVOS...since they will be about $250+ for them......[:'(][&o]

RE: Hitec HS-5625MG Vs. Futaba S9252 Servo
iflynething,
just get one 9252 for the collective and use 9001s on cyclic. Most of us couldn't tell whether there were digitals or analogs on cyclic. It is fairly easy to feel the difference on the collective though. A recent article in 3D-flyer magazine did a cursory comparison of 4 different servos. A digital by JR, Futaba and Hitec and an analog from Airtronics. They were all the top of the line giant scale servos. The Hitec was the worst of the bunch when it came to centering accuracy. It had and average range of 1.5 degrees variance. Futaba and JR were both less than 0.1 degrees and the analog Airtronics was around 0.5. Precision is what I'm paying the big bucks for in a servo. The Hitec didn't show too well!

RE: Hitec HS-5625MG Vs. Futaba S9252 Servo
Tower is a great place for RC stuff:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXVZ39&P=ML
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXH296&P=ML
I think heliproz discounts these prices, though, and will give you free shipping on orders over $100...
http://www.heliproz.com/
You'll have to call or email them for the discounted Futaba prices, though... Futaba won't let them show anything lower than the MSRP on their website! I think the S9252s were like $75, instead the $79.99 MSRP (at Tower)...

RE: Hitec HS-5625MG Vs. Futaba S9252 Servo
So, if I added correctly, that is around $350 just for the servos.....Are there ohers out there that are comparable to the Futaba 9252, and still Futaba but like a lower price, I really like the price of the 5625's...they're only like $54....anything like that by Futaba (I don't think so because Futaba is a more expensive brand....)

RE: Hitec HS-5625MG Vs. Futaba S9252 Servo
Just get one of the 9252s and three of the 9001s. The 9001s are only $30 and use a 148 or other cheap servo on the throttle. The 9001s aren't digital but they are excellent on a 50 size heli. The collective will benefit from the 9252 way more than the cyclic ever could. Digitals all around is nice but not needed even for hard 3D. My Evo flys excellent with 9001s all around but I can tell a slight lag in collective compared to my R50V2 which is digital. It isn't enough to make me spend the money for a digital,,, yet.

What about the 811 from JR? I know it is not one of your choices, but I heard that they are the best digital servos for the price

I just guess that I will have to "fly" around for a while, and just see what I can find as in the best "bang for the buck"....something cheap, but not too cheap, but will still do me good...!!

Servos are always a point of debate a bit like castor or synthetic fuels.
FWIW, I've used Hitec 5945s for pattern, large scale aerobatics beasties and choppers and have found them to be a powerful and precise.
The gear train seems to be far more solid and less wear prone that JR 8411s.
Cheers

Almost like planes, some like some, and some don't don't like sum.....I like the Hitecs because they are cheap and have alot of torque......

Most servos today are vastly superior to the stuff we used in by gone days. Is suppose it stands to reason.
Perhaps the rule should be buy the best servos you can afford and you can get good advise on what is good value etc from this forum.

yes.....true that mutare23.....I have another forum about Hitec 645 servos....i think that I might get them
They say they are applicable with .60 helicopters....and they have about the same torque as the 5625s...

I've only seen good reports on the 645s
Good luck with them and your flying

Well that other thread I have about them, a guy suggested that I consider the Hitec 625's....I dunno....I think that the 5625's are out of the question......Either the 625s or the 645's.....no offense to the guy who suggested the 625's but I'm leaning toward the 645's, they are the same price as the 625's....$40!!
P.S. Thanks for the gook luck
