Default O.S. 70 setting way off from manual.

Is anyone else having settings that are way off from the manual.
Low= 40 degrees rich off center
Mid= 1 turn out
High=1+1/2 turn out

I had alot of frustrating times cause I stuck to what the manual stated.

Any other fliers with similar problems?

All that a manual can instruct you about needle setting are just a starting point for the engine to come alive.

Then... you, your eyes, ears, knowledge, experience and tachometer take the control to "build" a reliably operating engine.

To get the picture same engines running together at the same place can have different needle settings.

The manual SHOULD give you a conservative point to use the engine reliably.

I understand and agree somewhat with what your saying. Thanks for posting, If you dont have an O.S.. 70 Heli engine than you dont understand what Im talking about.

Mornin...

I agree. The Manual should give you a resonable place to start and use the engine. Sure you need to tune the engine, but one would not expect it to be that far off from what the manual says....

the needle settings differ a lot right from the beginning until your engines works properly... thats y the manual gives you a setting that makes sure you dont run your engine with less too much oil, which is very important especially at the first time.
I wouldnt care too much about that... if your engine works well and your engine is well -oiled, who pays any attention to the manual ?[8D]

I know what you want to say, I can't understand what you are talking about if I dont have a OS 70 engine, but I dont think that ' s true...
I have several OS engines, and I can't believe this OS 70 is so much different from the others. Most times the needle is at 450 degrees, where the engine works just fine. But maybe you are right and I simply don't know a thing^^ I am just trying to help saying the manual gives you a point to start^^
best regards

Im not jumping on your case, I own the following O.S. engines=91 FX/61FX/46LA/40LA.
I know how to tune an engine, and have never been stumped like I have with this one. I will say that this is my first Heli engine, but the basics are the same. All is good now though.

Im just trying to see if anyone else who has HAD the OS 70, has any similar expierience.
Thanks for posting anway

Mornin...

I started to run in my new TT50H last night. The booklet that came with said 3 turns. This left the engine flooded and blocked. I got the engine started at around 1 1/2 turns and then richened it for the run in process...

I realise its not the same engine, but posted this for interests sakes.

Regards
Solo.

I have mine set about the same.

Make sure that your carb retainer is tight. Mine was a little more than hand tight (as per the manual) and came off in flight. It takes about 3 weeks to get a new one.

Does any body have experience with 3 needle OS 60 while using a Perry pump? I have Raptor 60 and just started using the Perry pump with the Curtis return system. Since I did this I have had to set the main needle at 3/4 out and adjustment is very sensetive.
