Default Damper lubrication

What happens if you lubricate these with regular grease?

Will just wiping them off and regreasing with silicone be ok or is the damage done already?

Regular grease is petroleum base, you don't want to use that. It will swell the rubbers up and make it soft over time. Just clean it off and you should be fine. In my opinion the best thing to use is white lithium grease, it has no petroleum in it.

I have found that dielectric tune-up grease avail. at most auto stores works best. A 100% silcone grease.
