TT39H Engine hassles...
I know engine problems are a nightmare to diagnose, but i am gonna try anyway......
Nearly had a gallon through the engine, ran it fairly rich to keep it safe.
Yesterday though, i had loads of hassles. it seemed to lean, so richened it up a little. went fine for 2 tanks. third tank with same settings, after about 30 seconds of hover you could hear the engine slowing down, with the obvious problem of the rotor blades slowing. I would land, and wind up the engine, it would be fine for 30 senconds then start slowing again. I tried it richer and leaner, it kept doing to same thing.
What am I missing?!?!?!
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks.

RE: TT39H Engine hassles...
Interesting. I could not really help you because I had the same problem with mine but mine is an O.S. 32 not a TT 39 which I would really like to have. But mine so far seems a bit stable. I was having the same problems with my O.S. 32 but what I did which seemed to help out is, when you look at the throttle arm, do you see a little bitty screw that is gold in color in the middle of that arm. I forget what that controls, but reading about it on my O.S. 32 it controls engine sensitivity or something that has to do with its power. I adjusted that and it work. Careful not to adjust it too much. It has something to do with the fuel flow. Maybe someone else can help you better, but I am just saying try that. That is what I did. Sometimes I could be the fuel you are running too, as I was told by another. Just different options. Ask someone first though before trying it I guess. I am just one that tries things and that may not always be the best. But ask someone about that screw if yours has it.

What % nitro are you using and what type(brand).
Sounds like its overheating.
I had better luck with 30% nitro and 20% synthetic with my raptor tt39,
it still lacked in power,im not the best flyer
but the 30 had no bal*s. Sell it and get a 50, PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
I run the 50 with 15% nitro (powemaster)and have no problems like the 30.

So is a 50 easier to handle than a 30 size? I have heard this from other people the same as you, that the 50 size makes kind of easier to control because it has more power, where as a 30 size will do manuevers but harder to do because not enough power.

It is true, the 50 is a much more capable machine!!
I wish i would have started with it instead of the 30,
it is basically the same heli with bigger engine blades and longer
tailboom.
Good luck to you and happy flyin!!!

It sounds to me like you have something clogging the fuel lines or carb. It definitely sounds like it is going lean but if you have opened the needle and it still does it, there is something else making it go lean. Check your pressure line from the muffler. If it is clogged it will do like you are saying. Be sure the clunk is working properly and doesn't have any holes in the line inside the tank.
Good Luck,,,Matt
PS ,, My TT39 was extremely sensitive on the main needle till it was well broken in and then it was still more sensitive than most engines have had. I ran it only on 30% Cool Power and it had great power, for a 30 size. It was never the lack of power that caused me trouble.

Basements right,
check forr a leak,, umm check the oring under the carby, and make sure the carby is pushed down hard. also the orings on the needles.
i also agree on the power , my tt39 puts out more than enough even when set slobbering rich.. I think the low needle has more effect thru a larger range than with OS motors..

RE: TT39H Engine hassles...
Seems better. Essentially the more the engine is run, the more lean it seems. I made it MUCH richer (over 1/2 a turn) and it seemed good today, had 3 solid flights.
Thanks for the thoughts, it does seem a plenty powerful engine. Though i know i will eventually upgrade to a 60 or 90, this heli will do me well for a while yet, provided i don't punish it into the ground.............

I'm also flying the Raptor with the TT 39 and have found the engine to have plenty of grunt when you consider it is flying around a 3 kg chopper.
I did notice whilst flying yesterday that now the engine has had about 4 litres through it, I was starting to lean the needle a click of two each flight to gain optimum power. I then noticed that after some 'stronger' flying the chopper appeared to be going lean on full throttle. A quick check through the memory banks suggested that this indicates the main needle is lean. The oil was still clean and showing a considerable trail in the air.
I wound the needle out of couple of clicks and the engine seemed happier. Landed it again and wound in out a quater of a turn and there were no problems.
Lesson learned. Keep it obviously very rich and there will be no problems.
Cheers
Phil

RE: TT39H Engine hassles...
one other thing to check
it keeps happening to me if you still have the stock
piece of crap muffler, the muffler will vibrate a little loose
allowing the pressure nipple to rotate towards the frame
in turn pinching the pressure line shut.
GOing today to get one piece muffler to stop this problem.
Just a thought,
Also have found my TT39 runs great with the high speed needle at 2 3/4 turns out
from seat.

Yeah, i got rid of the stock muffler after about 2 flights. bought a zimmerman, never looked back. it seems they like to run rich these engines, that seems the general consensus.
now i just gotta learn to fly.......
