Default When to do the blades modification...

I have 2 questions - I have recently got new wood blades and want to know how do I know if I must do the blade modification they mentioned in the R30 V2 manual. The other question is have any of you done this blade modification on wood blades?

I'm not positive what you mean by blade modification. I think the instructions do tell you to mark around the edges of the blade grips wiht a marker. Remove the grips and cut away the covering material just inside the marker line. Mix up epoxy and glue the grips in place. Be sure to put the screws back in and lightly clamp the bolt hole area til the epoxy cures. Wipe off the excess epoxy before it cures.

If that is the modification you are talking about, you have to do it before you use the blades on the heli. Wooden blades are very dangerous if you don't glue the grips to the blades.

Yes, to be clear that is the blade mod I am talking about. When I bought my heli at our local hobby store the guy told me I don't have to do the blade mod. So I didn't - this set of blades I have now is from my crash kit so I was just wondering.
Thanks alot for your input

Dan, Rudi. glue them no matter what ,, before your next flight , doens;t matter even if u r using a low headspeed.. flying with out epoxying the grips is suicide, maybe not just for your heli either, coudl kill u..

b safe lads.

At 18 I was flying a Concept 30 and 1 of the rotor blades came off. I had no idea I should glue to the grips on. As a result I was hit in the thigh with a blade. I had about a 2.5" deep gash from where it impailed me. I had to jump up to keep it from hitting me in the gut. Actually I jumped out of instinct, there wasn't reaslly time to think. The suggestion of suicide is not far fetched at all. I was about 10' from the heli in a hover when it ocurred. Of the course was nearly a total loss as well. Glue the grips on. Save your self money and pain.

Fly safe, have fun.

Use slow setting epoxy. That will give it more time to soak well into the wood grain. I used to sand on the grips as well, just enough to raise the grain and take away the slick mold finish.

I have always wondered what those two bottles named A and B was that you get in the Raptor kit. Well it is defenatly epoxy. I did the glueing a few days ago and it is not even hard work - rather be save than without a heli!!

What RPM is the R30 V2 doing right before lift off?
