What size battery, and what format R50v2
Hey y'all,
I just got me a Raptor 50V2, and I'm a newbie. The battery that came with my JR reciver is an N1100. How long will that one last?
Should I go get an N2400, and how long will that one last?
The N2400 comes in two sizes, one is very cube like, about 1.5" by 1.5" by 1.5", the other is more rectangular, about 3" by 1.5" by 0.5" What size will fit in my 50

You'll want the flatter pack for the heli, although I suppose either would work. I run the 1100 battery that came with my 8103 radio. I think I could get 2 flights out of the pack, but I charge it after flight just to be sure there is enough power in it. If you don't have a field charger consider getting 1, I use the Hobbico Quick Field Charger MKII. The Hobbico charger costs $50 and will charge my batteries, Tx and Rx att eh same time, in about 5-10 minutes following each flight. This charger will charge nicd, nimh and li-po batteries. Although, it’s li-po charging is less than optimum it is terrific for the other 2 types of batteries. If you can't get a charger now than certainly get the 2400 battery.

You will be fine with the 1100 pak that came with it. I fly 4 to 5 flights before I get concerned about checking Rx batteries. The transmitter battery seems to go down faster in most cases than the Rx. Get a good bat checker if you plan on flying a ton. Make sure to charge it over night before each flying session, or get a trikle charger so it is always ready to go. I use an Ace Digipace 3 which keeps 6 birds charged at one time. Its really handy to be ready at all times. Times vary, but if you are running 5 servos and a good gyro on that pack, you will get an easy hour of continuous use before you need to start checking it.

Wow I don’t believe there is anyway I could 4-5 flights from my 1100mah pack in my R50 V2. First time out it was under 4.8v after 2 flights on my multimeter with a 250mah load. Course I only got 3 from my 720mah in a fun fly plane and at most 4 flights on a 1000mah pack in my DPM Ultimate 40. Maybe I just work the sticks more than others, I dunno. After the first time out with the heli igot a field charger and charge after every flight now. If nothing else it makes me feel better to know that my packs are at full charge. I always used to charge at least 15 hours prior to heading to the field and just didn’t get that many flights.

On my R50 V2 all analog sevos and 1 digital tail I get 3, 10 minute flights with my
1700 mah pack. As soon as the flying season starts I am buying a 2300 mah pack
Good for 4 flights.
Helis Suck the juice
I friend has R 50 V2 all digitals 2 long or 3 short flights ( 6-8 min. )with a 2300 pack
So for helis you need a good pack, over 2000 mah and a quick field charger
I have a cheap, hobbico quick field charger which do a nice job
A volt meter a also a good investment.

Toss the nicad's and go for Duralite's. it might cost more up front, but the flight time and enjoyment you will get out of a 4000 mah pack will far override the cost.

I have 2 R50V2. One with 4 hitec 475 analogs and a 9454, the other with 3x 5475, one 5625 (collective) and a 9454 (tail). On both I have 1450 Mah NiMH. The average consumption per flight is 350 to 400 Mah, measured with my Triton. It means an average comsuption close to 1.5 amp ( 350 mAh / (13 min flight / 60 min in an hour))
The difference from the analog to the digital servos is minimal. I think the GY401/9454 is the great battery drainer. Some friends flying with regular servos on tail get half of the batt drain per flight.
Using a Multimeter with a discharge rate of 250 mA may yield a OK situation, but when your use the Triton to discharge at 2 A (typical all servos under load, no binding), the battery goes below 4.4V (my rule of thumb for a minimal safe voltage). As a result, I recharge after every 2 flights.
Just my 2c.

You could just buy some panasonic batteries 2200mah for $8.00 There awsome batteries I use the 2000mah in my ucd and get 40 min out of them before i recharge and there not dead when I recharge. I can't see buying a batterypack from duralite that cost 1/2 as much as the heli

Get a good size battery and charge often. Being a newbie, I blew it on this aspect. My only crash so far was my Raptor 50 thrashing itself and my rotopod training gear to pieces after the battery died and I lost all control. It went full throttle, full neg pitch, full left piro. Not sure what would have happened if it went full positive pitch. Lesson learned. Anyway.... I had a good size pack (1700 mah, nicad), but I didn't realize how much more helis take for power. I would fly my biplane 5 times on a 1500 mah pack without worrying about recharge. I tried that (5 flights) with my Raptor without recharge and this was the result on the 5th flight. I checked the consuption on a single flight and got about what "rjmdubois" did (370 mah). That would have put me at about 1500 mah used after the 4th flight. Needless to say. I charge now after two flights. Period. :-)

CSDILEY,
We all heard your reply the first time. We just don't care to answer your reply. Perhaps it has to do with your unprofessional tag/signature.

I think his sig is funny.
4000 maH batteries are overkill. What's the weight on them?
I usually fly 2-3 times max then charge her up.

A duralite 4000mah pack weighs 204 grams (7 ounces.)
by the way, since some of you seem to be offended by my signature, i will bow out of this forum. If anyone wants to discuss my good luck with duralites, feel free to pm or email me.
