Raptor mast bearings.
I've been having some problems with my heli jumping around so I decided to split the frames and check the bearings. Just as I thought both mast bearings are very rough. How long do these usually last? I have 10 gallons through it. I think they have some dust or grit that go inside of them. One of them has very very little roughness and the other one is horrible. The start shaft bearings are fine but the clutch bell is free to move up and down. I dont rember it doing this when I first put it together, maybe I just forgot? Will boom strikes or tip overs hurt the bearings?
Well, looks like heliproz is getting another order from me!

It sounds like your start shaft may need moved up and the start coupling reset on it. If the coupling isn't down tight when you lock it the clutch can move up and down some. The pinion might be worn on the bearing also. I'd pull it out and check it while you have it apart.

If you don't need to take it off, then I wouldn't! If you can press it down far enough or tap it down some and tighten the set screws, do that until the need to get it out comes, ie bearing repalcement. The set screws gall the shaft and make it nearly impossible to remove without destroying the bearings. I'll let you figure out how I know this.

Well, it's the burrs where the setscrews were in the shaft that is holding it up. I've put the clutch bell on a vise with the jaws open some and driven the shaft down through the coupler with a punch. Be careful doing this as it is easy to damage the bearings. I usually replace them if I have it this far apart anyway.

No. If the bearings are fine, use something to support the bottom of the pinion that is softer than the pinion (wood comes to mind) and tap the hex adaptor down until you can tighten the set screws so that the up and down play is gone. I can't recommend using any force on an aluminum clutch bell though I could recommend putting the adaptor in a vise and tapping the shaft out of it, then using something like a Dremel or a file to remove the burr on the shaft so that a bad bearing could be removed or a new bearing could be installed.

Well it looks like my clutch bell bearing is also bad. Does heliproz stock the 50 clutch bell? The one with the groove in it. I wonder if the bad bearing is what killed my clutch. The liner didn't seem to have much wear at all.

Use a "Greaser" with a quality synthetic wheel bearing grease that has the "EP" extreme pressure rating. I have found on the Raptors, that any crash that bends the mainshaft, also damages at least the top bearing. As Scotty740 has said, the TT bearings are very poor quality, and won't take much of a hit.
