Default Standard s3004 servos for rappy 30??

Can I use 5 standard S3004 futaba servos in the raptor 30? I was told I could but just want to get a second opinion. This would just be for general flying and nothing hardcore being I am a beginner.

You would be right on the edge with 44oz/23sec, but they will work on a 30. I definitely wouldn't put one on the tail. What gyro are you planing to use?

I have not decided on a gyro yet but cant really afford a gy401. Any suggestions on a in-expensive decent gyro? Maybe a 201?

Investing in a 401 combo is well worth it at 185 bucks you wont get a better setup.

yes the 3004s are fine on the rap 30 at least on nick n roll ect... not that they are special though of cause but they will fly it with little problem..
as every one says the 401 gyro and a good tail servo is the best idea.there is plenty of combo deals on the net...

FWIW, I reckon you should put the best possible servos in any R/C project, obviously within your budget.

Look at how much is invested in a chopper. Why risk that valuable asset on cheap servos.

Some years ago I was at a scale flying competition and was watching a well known Scale practitioner flying a magnificent four engined WW2 bomber. It had taken him 3 years to build. He had about 13 flights on this beauty, when sadly I watched its total demise as it slow rolled into the deck. Reason for crash. Servo failure. Servos used and there were 10 of them were all the at the cheapest end of the scale.

Moral to the story. Use the best servos you can afford.

Cheers

Phil

wise word murare 23..

id also add on top though that it is worth doing a search on google or forums to find a servo that suits your requirements but also to look to see if the servo is reliable.

sadly there have been some servos which werent cheap either that can show up on runryder or other forum which can suggest the servo might not be as reliable as we are lead to believe...

im sort of was quite lucky as i had a servo fail on me on my vario airwolf but i got the heli 2nd hand and didnt change the servos ( i know i should have [:@] ) so 6 months down the line the elevator servo gave out..but i was so lucky as i had just descended from height and hovered head height then at this point it all happened .the heli didnt do a great deal of damage,in fact mostly cosmetic damage.

needless to say i bit the bullet and got some more new servos

Im a fan of saving money where it can be saved.

The majority of people around me told me that i HAD to get fast digitals. Wrong.

I run 3010s in my Raptor. I can (well, not me, im not at that level, but in the hands of another pilot ive seen my bird doing it) do any stunt you can do with a 30. You're more limited by power from the motor than you will be with the servos, so dont go overboard.

That being said, for the price difference, i would go with 3010s if i were you. heres a breakdown

3004: at 4.8V [44oz/in, 0.23 sec] , at 6.0V [57oz/in, 0.16sec]
3010: at 4.8V [72oz/in, 0.20 sec] , at 6.0V [90oz/in, 0.16sec]

You'll note that I put the 6V numbers up there too. There is a reason for that. The difference is very noticable in flight. This isnt something that you have to do right away, but its a good idea for later. Its an inexpensive way to improve performance of the servos. Keep in mind, if you end up using a 9254 on the tail, you need a voltage regulator, that servo (like a lot of digitals) doesnt like 6V, so you need to put a regulator inline, but those are relatively cheap, i got mine for 13 dollars.

The 3010s are only a little faster at 4.8V and the same speed at 6.0V. However, the torque is much better on both ends. Just over 60% more torque at both voltages.

This gives you 2 things. 1, its actually going to be a little faster in real life, because those speeds are unloaded. Especially on the collective, in flight, the extra torque will make a differnece in the speed of the servo, it can push through the load better.

And while no analog servo will ever keep as perfectly centered as a digital, the higher torque means it should hold its center better.

For the price difference, take the 3010s.

And lastly.

Save for another month or two if you need it, and get the 401/9254 combo for the tail, epecially for a beginner, you would be suprised how important a strong tail hold can be. Not to mention some of the cheaper options have a habit of failing.

There are 2 things on a heli I will never buy on a budget. Blades and Gyro/Tail Servos.

think the difference is only the 3004s are ball raced but the 148s are bush. but im only going by my memory..
what ever the weather though the 148s will fly it but i doubt id feel like putting through to many hard maneuvers
