Get a DX and don't worry about antennas

Or a deans or revolution whip.

Tex,

Why are you hesitant to trim your antenna to use a micro one? I've been using a micro antenna for over 2 years now on all my heli's and have never had a problem. They are proven and while they say you loose range, I've had my heli's so far away from me I could barely see them and never had a control probem to date. I swear by the micro's....I hate the long antenna.....

Its never a good idea to "trim" your antenna, i can/does affect the range, sometimes more than you might think. I'd hate to find that out the hard way with a $2000 toy, wouldn't you?

He means cutting it to put a Deans or other whip style base loaded antenna, and at the range we fly choppers they work just dandy.

Bro, MANY people fly their $2000 toys including myself using the micro antenna without any problems. They are not new or experiemental, they are proven and that's why so many people use them.

Unless you misunderstood as Barracuda states.....I didn't mean simply trimming the antenna for the sake of trimming it.....I was referring to trimming it down to 4-6 inches left and then soldering on the micro antenna.

A planker in our club that always flies the big planes, drug out his Senior Telemaster and got it going for extra entertainment. One day he and another pilot were having fun with their TMs flying them into low cloud cover - way up there and way out there. No way I could see the orientation of the planes when they were up there and out there, but they have better vision than I.

Anyway, when he was taking down his TM to go home, he called me over to look at his antenna. He had forgotten to route the 72 MhZ antenna at all. It was wadded up in a birds nest beneath the Rx.

Just an anecdote about antenna placement. Maybe he was just lucky?

EvilHorse have those pics of your setup yet? Curious to see it, I am going over a freinds 30 who still uses 72 MHZ and he is complaining about his antenna routing.
