Best Rudder Servo for Raptor 60
Wich is the best rudder servo for a Raptor 60 - I am looking at the Futaba S9254 ,Hitec HS-7966HB V2 Digital High Resolution HS KG Servo or the Align DS520 I am using he servo with a Futaba GY401 Gyro. The Futaba servo is the lowest in torq but this is the matched servo for the GY401.

RE: Best Rudder Servo for Raptor 60
I like Futaba radio equipment. I don't know why they rate there high end servos so low in torq when compared to the other two Hitec and Align servos. I usually go with Hitec for servos for most servo applications. If the S9254 will last and work as good as the other two then they should rate the torq higher more people will buy them. The speed rating is the best out of the three though at .06 sec.

RE: Best Rudder Servo for Raptor 60
I was thinking about getting a raptor 60 too and using my 401 on it. I'm only into sport flying but I want something a little better in the wind than my raptor 30. The local hobby shop has a good deal on a 60 size that i was thinking of buying if i could transfer my electronics. Would there be a problem with the 401 on a 60 size raptor? If so,what gyro would you use on a raptor 60 that doesn't cost so much?

I used the 401 in my 60, and it was windy - and it held fine. Not a problem.
I have a friend using one on a Raptor 90, and he's quite pleased with it.

For $150 it better work for any heli. I think the specs sais it's good for a 30-60 sized Heli which should cover all as a 90 is just a 60 with a more beefed up motor. Which servo would you guys go for the Futaba 9254 or the Hitec or Align.

I'm only into sport flying
As noted, a 401 is good for sport flying and some aerobatics. When you get into 3D, a better giro might be your best option.

Thats exactly right.
A 401 will hold ok on any size model. Where it runs into trouble is when you're trying to throw piros into manuevers that demand a consistent piro rate. Piros in fast forward flight, piro flips in the wind, piroing funnels and the like. When the 401 gets into a good breeze it struggles for a few moments up wind then whips around when the tail is going down wind. 611, 520s, Spartans, Intertia gyros are much more consistent.
I have a 401 on a 50 that will do hurricanes and tail slides, but if you try going fast then doing a piro the weakness is obvious.
All that is said for comparisons sake, the 401 is an excellent gyro.

How about all these super cheap Gyros - some look like the 401 there called the GY08 and the GY48v and so on. They sell for between $20 and $30. Are these anygood for any application.

A gyro is something you should not go cheap with - same with the rudder servo. Get the 401 with the 9254 servo, and you can't go wrong. I tried one of the cheap gyro's when one was given to me, on a clone 450 - and if there was a gust of wind, or you punched the collective, and tail would blow out everytime, I was constantly fighting it. Plus the trim would change as the battery wore down.
Just my opinion

RE: Best Rudder Servo for Raptor 60
I just bought the Raptor 50 (1st nitro heli) to learn on. I fly mostly large gas airplanes and have a few Hitec 5955 and 7955 servos laying around. How would they do as the tail servo matched with a 401 gyro? No 3d, just learning and sport flying! Thanks, Henry

RE: Best Rudder Servo for Raptor 60
I used Futaba S148's for a long time on my older Raptor 30 and they work good. Even after many crashes. I replaced it with Hitec Digital Standard HS-5485 servo when they were on sale for $22. For that price you get extra torq and there digital so there much better than the Futaba S148 for $10 more. You won't notice the speed difference untill your really whipping the Heli around.
When you go to a Higher end servo I would recomend the Futaba Rudder Servos there the most reliable. Over the years I have never had a Futaba Servo go bad even for Airplane Retracts or Heli Rudder.
Align makes some pretty good High end Servos for a good price like the DS620 at around $68 bucks the servo is not a bad option for the rudder. Pros use them for etreme 3D. There .09sec - .07sec at 6v speed and alot of torq.
