2walla, that is a good idea. If this is as easy as they say it is, this product would be a great alternative to glassing. I just finished my first warbird and I hate to say it but I monokoted it for fear of glassing. If this product is good I will not hesitate to use it for my next project. Tfarmer keep it up with your experiments. It is helping everybody out.

Any way if you do the conversion from Troy Oz to grams its.
.26 toz or 8.08 grams dry weight with nothing on the sheet
.48 toz or 14.92 grams with 2 coats
Sorry about this i should have looked at the setting on that scale.

Can I suggest that you make a couple of stress risers in your test pieces- put in a couple of glue joints both parrellel and perpindicular to the grain so that you can do some flexure testing to see if it cracks over the joints. I used to paint my quickie 500 racers and tried several things to seal them up- the best thing ended up being mod podge thinned out a little bit with water. It held up great- you should try a couple test pieces with it..

There was never a claim that it strengthen, its a cover for painting. If you needed to strengthen your wood you would have to glass it. I bet this stuff would work great over glass, I am going to test panel over glass.

So your test sheet is 54 sq. in. and you added 7 grams weight, that would calc to .13 grams/sq. in or 18.6/sq. ft. That less than an ounce per square foot,, not bad I guess
If I had a more accrtate scale I'd do a test sheet with .58 glass cloth/epoxy to compair the two

Its flexibility might not be an indicator of its tensile strength. Spanwise the tensile strength might stiffen the wing. Think about how easy it is to twist a wing on a free flght model and then how much it stiffens when the dope and tissue is put on it. Or, think about a rubber band.

put the 320 sand paper on this stuff after 24 hours it sands much better. also i think 1 coat of the thin product would be enough to paint over.

Subscribed! This is a very interesting product, project, and thread.
My wifes TopFlite GS Corsair is almost ready to finish sheeting. She wants black monokote, but I prefer Solartex or glass. This product would allow me a good substrate for a great paint job.

check this out. The wood didnt even crack.
We will see what it does in a few days.

i did see the a-10 from wow planes 3 days in a row at monster planes sitting in the hot fla sun, NO problems

This is exactly what I need, an airplane coated with Flubber! If I drive it into the ground it'll bounce back! It would be interesting to know after you paint it how it would hold up in the sun for a couple of hours just as if you had your model in the sun.

It will hold up just fine. The product is made for the indoors and outdoors. Some of those foam figures are I would think are not indoor ornaments. There are placed outside for the public to see rain , sun, snow hot or cold.

I’m shooting primer on one side of the side experiment right now. I will shoot some rattle can paint on the full plank after the primer dries.

becouse a paint job is only as good as the prep under it. primer is formulated to give the
paint something to stick too. don't wanna have to re-paint it every couple of years.
