Default Hunter's Orange

Hello All:
I just received an email from our club Pres. to wear hunter's orange when at the flying site due to our being at a location were deer hunting is prevalent.
I never really gave it much thought but felt it's a great idea and I'm passing it on to you at RCU.
Planes are not the only thing that could be 'shot down'.

Bullets can travel a great distance. Especially with some of the hardware they have nowadays.

I'd consider finding an alternate till hunting season is over.

Bullets can't tell if you're wearing blaze orange or not, and unlessa hunter suspects you're the rare R/C flying deer that stands erect he probably wouldn't shoot your way wearing orange or not if he could see you to begin with. If it's a stray bullet then wearing orange won't help. Likely some anti-hunter will see you wearing orange and shoot you to show their contempt forhunters. ;-)

Go hunting. At least then you're armed and can shoot back.

However, if the hunter can see the orange behind the animal he wants to shoot
maybe he won't make the shot.

I wouldn't bet on that. Some of the half-drunk, fanatical, "I'm gonna keeel me sumpin" idiots with guns that we have around my area would.

I agree, that is why I said "maybe".

Most States the seaon is only open a week or so,
I would suggest just taking a break. If there is someone hunting very close by and you spook his deer he is liable to take a few pot shots at your A/C. I do both fly and hunt. R/C planes aren't a problem where I hunt but idiots running around the woods on ATV's where the are not allowed are. Maybe I should find an ATV forum to vent in.

I guess we're fortunate in our area. Hunting is prohibited around our area because of the population densiity. Not likely to have poachers around our field, with the County Sheriffs office a bit over 1/4 mile away.

Don't forget, there are a pretty fair number of Great White Hunters who will shoot at even sounds without waiting to see what they're shooting at, especially if they are carrying beer instead of water. People have been shot and killed by hunters even on their own porches and yards. Not too many years ago, in a New Engleand city, there was a woman who came out of her front door, and was shot and killed by a hunter who just saw a flash of white through the trees. The white was the lady's white jacket.

I think one year during deer rifle season, the state reported on how many thousand deer, around 40 hunters, and 64 autos and pick-ups were shot.

While the percentage of hunters who are too dumb to be trusted might be small, the number is still pretty large.
