Servo Screw Trouble

Servo Screw Trouble
Aloha RCU flyers,
I know that this is a very basic question but I need advice on it nevertheless. Many times when screwing in servo screws I round off the head and can no longer turn the screw. What do I have to do differently to keep this from happening? It turns what should be a 20 minute job into something that takes much longer. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

You should ditch the crummy screws that come with the servos and use these socket head servo screws from Micro Fasteners instead: https://www.microfasteners.com/stw03...al-screws.html
They have an assortment of sizes available. My only complaint is that shipping charges to only buy one or two items can be expensive (as compared to the purchase price of the item itself), so I usually wait until I need a bunch of stuff and stock up all at once.

Most of these screws have the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screws so you need a JIS screw driver. Most hobby shops now carry them. The JIS screw looks very similar to a Phillips screw but; it is not, and a Phillips screw driver will round out the head of a JIS screw if a lot of torque is required. Every serious modeler needs a JIS driver as most, if not all, servos and receiver screws are JIS. Once you get the proper screw driver, you will wonder how you ever got along without it.

You can get a set of these for under $20. In addition to things like servo screws they are essential for working on glow engines. If you don't have an LHS, or you have one that doesn't carry them, they're easy to find on line.

If you have just one socket head screw,
use it to make threads in the servo tray.
Drill pilot holes and screw the socket head
screw into them without the servo in place.
The servo screws should go nicely into the
holes after that.

I can go to RTL Fasteners or Micro Fasteners and get 100 PCS for $5.00
Double the amount for just a $1.00 more.

I don't go any longer anyway,,I hate the crowds,, 100 people standing in line for an hour to save $2 on a gallon of glow?? that's crazy, I'd rather pay the hazmat fee,, and last time the one and only thing I really wanted to buy (an EP Bipe arf) was all sold out by the time I got there.Bought it out of the classifieds on RCG at a discount a while later. have fun,, won't see ya there
