Thanks. Sounds like a good idea to look at different springs. I'll bet I could even accomplish that through an auto parts store, if I can't do a special order.

I have a wells cargo with torsion suspension and like it lot, but I wasn't so sure if it was really that much better than leaf springs.

I saw my answer last night. I was following a Pace trailer which looked to be an 8 x 5 like mine but with leaf spings. It was being towed by a Jeep Wrangler like mine.

Anyways, the trailer must have been empty because that thing was bouncing all over the road. Since we don't put much weight in the trailers (especially a 8 x5 size) I would think the planes would get bounced around quite a bit.

Default Trailer

BAE - I've had both over the past decade and strongly feel the torsion bar suspension results in a smoother ride than leaf springs. I had read about premature wearing of the torsion assemblies, but don't feel this is a major problem. Wells Cargo stands behind their product and replacement parts are readily available.

See my earlier posts/pics.

Default New Trailer

Some of you might have seen my home made trailer which I have put up for sale.

The reason being is I bought a new Haulmark 6 x 12 with a side dood and a drawbridge rear door, and in the process in preparing it for the ultimate hauling to different events.

Now my question is this. What do you guys do with similar trailer when your backing up to hitch it up when your alone. I have many different ideas, but not sure about them and don' t want to reinvent the wheel.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Roger,

Make sure they give you a detachable wheel for the front jack. This way you can nudge a little side to side. Sometimes it takes me a few attempts but I hook mine alone all of the time.

Thanks, it didn't come with a wheel, so I will check this.

After a lot of searching to back the Van to the trailer and line up the hitch without getting out of the van, here is what I did.

Oh yes this is my new aircraft carrier.

Here is the setup. A tiny wireless camera that I installed in a self contained battery box with switch, pilot light and charging jack.

On magnets, easy to relocate.

Inside, a small 5" B&W TV on the dash.

The same unit being wireless and on magnets, I simply put up on the trailer back as a good vision of what is in the back of the trailer when backing it up.

John,
After I gathered all the information for the camera backup system, it came out a bit more expensive then I thought. If anyone wants one I can ship a complete plug and play for $250.00 USD plus S&H.

I have used 4 times allready, and I can't beleive how nice this thing works. My local trailer vendor now wants to have them for his customers. Its like docking the space station with the shuttle..
