I found a digital panel meter on E-Bay to monitor onboard battery voltage. (I thought it was cool had had to have it.) Next to that is a spare electrical box for future needs. Next is a triple switch to control rear loading lights, onboard battery charging from truck while towing, the last of the triple switches control 12v outlets. The center area will be for a stereo system. (Gotta have tunes.) Going further to the right, that switch controls the onboard battery charger. The switch to the extreme right is a 3 way that will switch from shore power to inverter. (I have not purchased the inverter yet.)

Believe it or not the trailer is almost finished. I’ve been working on this from February 21st to April 1st; my wife is looking forward to seeing me more than just at meal time. Some fine tuning has to be done yet. As you can see the planes and helis are loaded and seem to fit well. All we need is the weather to cooperate so we can fly. The main reason for building this is there is an empty space on the floor on the right side ready for my new 35% Extra 260 which I’ll be starting on in the next few weeks.

I had 11 planes ( 4 of them 1/4 scale ) and a T-Rex loaded in my trailer this weekend. Sometimes you just can't decide what to fly. You will find more ways to get more in there, trust me.

Yes they are airplane restraints. Just push them in the ground in front of the tail. They work great on 1/4 scale and down. Much less bending over. Saves on your back!

Cool trailers, guys! Just bought a 6 by 12, double rear door single side door. By the way the manufacturers' name is RC TRAILERS!!!! Royal Cargo, actually, but they have the initials "RC" on their logo on the trailers. Contact them at www.rctrailers.com or www.Johnstrailersales.com which is where I picked mine up. They make them in Middlebury, IN in Elkhart county, which I think has more trailer companies per square mile than anywhere else on the planet! They also have a place in Toledo, so maybe you could visit them while at the show. Any problems with tiles coming up in cold weather?

Finally got my Haulmark 10 X 6 today. Took about 10 weeks[>:]. Time to get to work so I can put some planes in there.

I'm keeping an eye on the tongue weight as I'm loading things in the trailer and I can't understand how people are putting cabinetry and other other heavy items up front. I was thinking about geting tongue box to keep 5 gallon fuel containers in but I can't imagine what I'd have to put in the back to counterbalance it. I'm trying to keep the tongue weight within the recommended 10-15% GVW but that's forcing me to put some heavy stuff in the back? Just wondering if anyone has had these issues? Thanks.

That is an interesting question. I have never checked mine. I have a bench in the front of my trailer but I also have some boxes and stuff to the rear. I'm going to have to weigh it and see!
The Draw-Tite sight has a good how-to for that. http://www.draw-tite.com/ I can't get it to link to the exact page. Click Information on the left, then Determine GTW & TW.

I still have some more stuff to put in there and need to figure out the best way to do it. I can see this as being a never ending project but one that will be enjoyable. The tongue weight changes quite a bit as you put items in there. Took it to the field for the first time today and it was nice not trying to squeeze things into the van. Took a few pics before pushing into the garage tonight.

Very nice. What do you keep in the "safe box" in the center?

In case anyone is interested. For the floor, I used anti fatigue interlocking floormat. I've been using it in my workshop for a few months and although it's not advertised as chemical resistant, I've spilled gasololine and kerosene on it with no problems. I did wipe it up quickly though. Not sure about glow fuel. It's great on the knees and when sitting. I didn't glue them down and they havent moved at all. I bought them at Costco. One package is 32 square feet for $13.00. I needed two packs for my 6 X 10. It is a foam type flooring, not rubber so time will tell on the durability but for $26.00, who cares.

Guys, which is better? Double rear doors or a ramp door? Having a hard time deciding
Guys, which is better? Double rear doors or a ramp door? Having a hard time deciding
1. I could open them while the trailer is in my garage with the garage door closed.
2. I could sit in the back of the trailer at the field and eat lunch with my feet on the ground if I didn't feel like taking out a chair.
3. I'm 6'+ tall and I'd bang my head more getting in and out if I had a ramp.
4. I could hang stuff on the doors.
5. Can't trip over double doors .
Just some of my main reasons. If you were going to use the trailer to transport bikes or anything big that needed to roll in, I would say go for the ramp. In my case, this is strictly a plane hauler and the DD's was my personal preference.

RAMP - I mounted a couple folding adjustable legs on the outside of the ramp (stabilizers for camp trailers) which allowed me to drop the ramp to level and use it as a setup table at the field. With the legs folded, the ramp worked normally. Only downside to this setup is the cable that is on one side of the ramp to help lift it to close.
DOUBLE DOORS - Easier to load/unload IMHO. Takes less space to open up. Less expensive, less weight, and more reliable.
I started with double doors, then ramp, now back to doubles. Resale is higher on ramped ones, so doubles are quite a bit less in the used market. Whichever you go for, GET A SIDE DOOR!

If you are considering a "walk-in" trailer ramps may be the way to go. If the trailer is going to be short in height and you will have to crawl in, doors would be the right choice. I'm able to walk in my trailer(double doors) and I think the ramps would be better for my knees, especially when packing up at the end of the day. My trailer floor is higher than a normal step so as I get older, I think ramps are going to weigh more on my mind.
Space would be an other consideration. As Afterburner and Teachu2 said you need to consider if you have the room to open the ramp at home, your field, or any other fields you my go to.
How do you plan on setting it up and what size trailer are you looking at?
