It all depends on what material you want to use for the lettering.

When using Monokote, I buy the full size white sheet labels from Avery (Part #5265). Using any decent graphics program, create what you want, flip the image 180 degrees horizontally and print it out on the labels. Trim close to the lettering and stick it to the BACKING on the Monokote. Carefully cut the outline and just iron it down where you want it.

If you don't have a stencil font on your machine, I can e-mail you the one I have. It's a True Type font that works with any program I've used.

The registration number on the biplane and all the stars were done this way. BTW, sign makers tape helps alot with the alignment...
