Default Repairing Torn Sig Koverall

I have a balsa usa clipped wing cud that I purchased a couple of weeks ago. It is covered in sig koverall and then painted. During shipping a section of the cover was torn and I would like to patch it. I was wondering what would be the best way to do this. I am concerned about using any heat dues to the fact I do not want to melt the paint that is already on the airplane. What do you guys think? Can I dope a patch over the tear and then paint that?
