hey guys i formed a fiberglass cowl for my airplane and was wondering if anyone knew of some kind of putty that is easy to sand to form and will adhere to fiberglass. it got to be form either tower or hobby people though. thanks

I used "spray putty" from a paint supply store to finish my cowl. It worked very well and sand very easily. I know its' not from the store you nominated but any paint supply shop should have it.

From Tower Hobbies....

#1. item # TOPR1090....Supreme micro balloon filer.
#2. item # GPMR6165....Milled fiberglass.

Either one will work....mix with fiberglass resin, then put in the catalyst. Mix
again, and apply. The micro ballons are lighter. There is another product
called "cabosil"....it is very light, and makes a good puddy too....available
where ever fiberglass products are sold.

I use Ever-coat fiberglass bondo. Stays semi flexible. Has a pretty short work time, I think around 10 minutes or so, mix small quantities. Cure time to sanding is less than an hour and sands like hard balsa when you use 80 grit aluminum oxide sand paper on a sanding bar. I've only used it once but will definately use it again. Got it at an auto parts store.

I agree with Edwin, evercoat is the way to go!

Dont think I've ever seen it at autozone. Look for the auto parts stores that have paint supplies (not the spray cans) and body repair material. Those kinds of shops seem to have a ton of useful stuff.

I got some of that stuff at a Sherwin-Williams auto refinishing store. It's not Evercoat brand but it seems very similar. It cures quick and sands nice.
