RE: Outfitting my box trailer.
I made two goofs....
1. I should have glued the foam panels to the metal roof. The plastic panels are
kind of "saggy". Even though the styrofoam panels are light, they are adding to
the sag of the panels. I might add some wood stringers running lengthwise along
the roof to help cure the sag, and allow me to hang some planes from the roof.
2. When I ran the trailer brake wires back to the rear of the motorhome I didn't
run a 12 volt wire back to power the dome light in the trailer. I just got a back-up
camera system for the rig, and when I wire it in I will add the extra wire. I got the
back-up camera so I can point it down over the trailer ball, and watch as I position
to hook up to the trailer. When the trailer is not in use I point the camera in the
normal position for a rear view.
Those camera systems are neat. They have a photo cell, and a bunch of LED lights
in the camera, so if it's dark at night, the lights on the camera come on automatically
and light up to 25 feet in the rear.
The airplane holders and such have worked flawlessly, and there are no marks or
rubs on the planes where they contact the foam.

Dave,
What part of the San Bernardino desert do you live in?
I used to live south of you in El Centro.
Moved to Northern Califonia few years ago.
We've got mallards all over the this place but I sure miss my friends and flying buddies from down south.

ps My wife hates the weather and lack of shopping up here!

RE: Outfitting my box trailer.
Dave,
I'm familiar with it. We used to live in Ridgecrest.
Second best place we ever lived.
Retiring in 5 to 10, thinking of heading to Tucson.
Back to the desert and out of CA.
The trailer looks great, keep having fun.

I retired about 6 years ago at 55....building the car was one of the things I really
wanted to do in this lifetime.

RE: Outfitting my box trailer.
Dave, that is incredible. My wife and i just bought a 6X12 enclosed for hauling around her stuff to craft shows. She does barn board art (birdhouses, benches, potting benches, picture frames etc....) and there wasn''t enought room to put it all in the back of the truck. am going to do a similar set up to what you have except i will have to add plywood to the walls. Right now its only the thin panel board on the inside. That is without a doubt the nicest set up trailer i have ever seen.
Cheers

RE: Outfitting my box trailer.
That trailer of yours is just amazing!
I bought a 12 foot cargo hauler to haul a couple Harleys to Ridgecrest from Aberta, Canada in 2006, when my wife and I were working at NAS China Lake. We both loved the area and spent lots of time exploring the High Desert and the Sierras (where it was cooler). Worked really well and I have been thinking lately that I might make some changes with it so I can haul my Planes around. If you don't mind, I would like to incorporate some of the exellent contrivances that you have so masterfully concocted.
Cheerz,
Dave

Hey flyboy Dave,
I liked your idea and built on it.
Here are the results so far.

I still have a little more to do. But you (and others) get the idea.
