Default what removes residue from balsa

I'm removing the inexpensive covering (stickyback) from and trainer wing and taking out the dihedral and turing it into a float plane. Will acetone work? Seems like someone told me once but I forgot. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks TLH, right after I posted this I saws just below where someone had already asked the same question, but he didn't get the lighter fluid answer just the acetone. I'll try the acetone to see how it works.

One thing, acetone is also the solven for CA glues. As long as you dont soak the wood, IE submerge it in a tub of aceton, lol, the glue is not affected if you are just giving the wood a quick wipe with a damp rag. I recently glued a some parts together backwards and successfully soaked the balsa to release the glue completely. I also use it to remove extra glue as in when I edge glue sheeting. A wet rag will remove unwanted glue form the surface making sanding easy.

If you use acetone, you also need to remember that it is very flammable. You must make sure that you are no where near a flame or pilot light. Might want to consider working outside. Good Luck, Dave

Another good way is HOT water and a few scoops of washing powder in a bucket. Soak the fuse or wing in it for a while then rinse. Just don't have it in direct sunlight when drying.
