Best adhesive for ply formers in a glass fuse?
I would like to hear some recommendations. I have used Stabilit, polyester resin and glass, etc. I am thinking probond polyurethane glue may be a good option. Thoughts?

I have a Yellow Cap 10. Everything was glued in with epoxy. In the first snap into the ground, everything fell out including the tailpost. glued everything with Goop. Second snap into the ground nothing moved including including the tank mount which is aluminum plate glued to glass,Heavy with 16oz fuel in it. Working on third wing. Bear for punishment!!

I have a Jekyll with ply formers. I glues them in with polyurethane glue and they are in very solid for three years now. Make sure you sand the fiberglass where the formers will be glued to the fuse.

This is the stuff many of the jet pilots use and have found it to be a superior adhesive for gluing anything to fiberglass. This is the same stuff that BVM markets as "Aeropoxy":

I second that aptar, the Hysol 9462 is pretty tough stuff, although if for some reason you need to use it outside the airframe, do your best to keep excess to a minimum because it is a little harder to sand.

I agree with aptar, Hysol 9462 is great. I've been using on the Fiber Classics 330L I'm building. You have to sand the surface first before gluing. It has about 50 minutes working time and takes overnight to dry. The nice thing is that it doesn't run like other epoxies.

RE: Best adhesive for ply formers in a glass fuse?
Planning to use Aeropoxy to set formers in my Byron Wedell Williams Racer. I was planning to use it in place of polyester resin and fiberglass cloth.
My question is will I need to use any fiberglass over the Aeropoxy?? I dont think so but in my search I saw a couple of people do this. I thing it's overkill but just want to get some feedback. a good bead of the Aeropoxy should be all the former needs.
Thanks,
Pete
Sorry for digging up a 5 yr old thread LOL

I'm with flypaper on this one. I use goop on polyester fuses. I glued a airtank straight to the glass. When that plane did a radical verticle impact test, the fuse accordianed right up to the wing leading edge and the aft section accordianed right up to the wing trailing edge. Everything that was gooped in didnt move.

If the AeroPoxy is epoxy, it will have an equal or better strength and chemical resistance. Epoxy resin outperforms polyester resin in every category except price.
