Hello everyone..
i bought my first 50cc gasser after waiting for a long time. I wanted some help in order to mount the cowl successfully on theplane.
As you can see the cowl is crooked / warped . maybe this is because of the cowl ring which has got deformed.
What suggestions/experiences you have in dealing in a situation like this.
pls add pics if you can.
My hobbyshop has promised to get a new one but i dont think his consignment in coming from china within the next two months.

IMO go ahead and use the cowl as is! It will be hard to notice a slight difference side to side once its on the airplane. If your hobby shop gets you another then you have a spare.

Leave the wood ring on but cut the section of the ring out where it is warped or bows out, replace this section with a shorter piece in the correct shape, reinforce with a doubler longer than the replaced piece, placed on the inside, overlapping onto the native or remaing intact ring, use rubber bands to hold into the correct shape until glue dries.

Try heating the glue/ply ring with your heat gun and remove the ply ring and make a new one the correct shape, tak it in place with Zap and finish it off with 30 min epoxy.
Another thought is soak it in water to soften the ply and see if you can reshape it and let it dry while holding the correct shape, I have not done this but maybe worth a try before making a new ply ring.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Check my post 2614 here for exactly what you have asked.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_32...tm.htm#6897543
Refer to point no. 5. and pics.
Have a 45cc gasser installed and have no problems with the cowl without a ply ring.
Cheers
