I found this pic of a fellow modeler's plane. Does anyone know how to create a chromed canopy as shown, yet still being translucent? I would think its paint, but it cant be! But what do I know!

It looks like it was tinted black and you're just seeing a reflection of a flourescent light on the top of it

Its an outdoor shot....but you might be right on with the reflection!

If you study the photo closely you can see the lightning holes in the wood on the inside of the plane. Look near the back of the canopy. I do not know how to achieve this mirroring effect but it is probably done in much the same way as making mirrored sun glasses.

Edited to add: I went to HobbyZone and looked at the Fliton pics of the plane and those are the servos you can see in his pic near the back of the canopy.

There is a chrome paint for plastic model cars which can be used to give a chrome canopy. I once sprayed the inside of a plastic canopy with rattle can aluminum. From the inside it was aluminum, from the outside gray. [&o]

I actually did that white TopFlite Lustrecote on a canopy. It was aluminum. 2 really light coats..gave it a smoked tint, with metallic flake. Came out nice.

Most metalic paints have flecks in the paint. The other pigment (if any) is thin enough to allow the metal flake to show after curing. Apply that stuff thinly and you'll be able to see the metal flake from either side. And if the color pigment is thin enough, you'll be able to see right through it.

I used chrome on a canopy painted from inside and achieved what you are after...

If I am understanding your post correctly, you spray this stuff on the inside of a canopy and, from the outside of the canopy, it will look like chrome?

I have sprayed the inside of the canopies on my pattrn planes with silver. Several LIGHT coats, or you may distort the canopy. It comes out looking great! Its definately not translucent though.....Gene

Did you use the surface prep product first, or did you just apply the chrome directly on the canopy?
