RE: Best Way to Attach a Canopy
I cannot speak from experience but I have read several times........ don't use CA to do a canopy. The fumes "smoke up", ( permanently stain), the inside of the canopy. Anyone ever have that problem??...... lownslo......

RE: Best Way to Attach a Canopy
You are mighty welcome Woodbutcher. I find it to be the neatest cleanest method there is and it is easily removable and it seals the canopy so fuel and dirt etc can't get in.

RE: Best Way to Attach a Canopy
I used what the lhs had, Formula 500 or something, and the put striping tape around the edge. FWIW.

RE: Best Way to Attach a Canopy
I used some stuff called "ribbon caulk". Made by 3M, available at automotive paint supply stores, and some "NAPA", Autozone, Advance,etc.. Fills "gaps", VERY tacky, holds well, stays pliable, easily rolled in to required thickness, easily removed, cleans up w/ alcohol, or most any other solvent. Does not harm the canopy, or covering. (So far.)

RE: Best Way to Attach a Canopy
I am an idiot and used CA on my Magic extra ( my only excuse
was it was 1.30am and I really wanted to fly the next morning lack of sleep = stupidity ) which of course fogged up the interior and made it look horrible ( shame as the rest of the build was fine) any suggestions as to how to remove the canopy without trashing the canopy/covering job and clean up the stained covering inside ? RE: Best Way to Attach a Canopy
Hi
Acetone disolves CA - I have a magic extra and splilled CA on the canopy and used acetone to remove it completely. I was afraid that the acetone would affect the canopy but it was fine has not developed cracks or such afterwards. Try putting acetone on the joint. Tim |
