Adjustable protractor to transfer angles from plans?
 

Is there a good adjustable protractor out there for modeling? I would like to have a tool that I can transfer an angle from a plan to a disc sander.

There is a device called an 'angle duplicator', available at Sears and possibly Lowe's or Home Depot. It's used to copy an angle to allow it to be transferred. It is basically a blade hinged at one end that is enclosed in a body that forms the other side of the angle. You would 'eyeball' the angle from the plans onto the duplicator and transfer the angle to where you wish.

This works well for transferring angles to saw blades and sanders.

In the olden days I was a draftsman and we used a Post brand Trig-scale adjustable triangle to draw any angle. They are still available at most blueprint stores and I have seen them a our Staples. I use mine all the time to check an angle on a darwing and then transfer to the part. Mine is over 40 years old and I wouldn't be without one.

You can make one easily from popsicle sticks for near nothing! Or any two straight flat straightedges, metal, plastic or wood. jst match the angle and use a thumbsrew to hold them in plaace to keeping them from slipping, then just move them to where you need and presto! there you go!
So long as they do not slip or move the angle remains constant. You do not need any fancy graduated by degree tool though they are nice.

I'm with you. there so many tools that we can make ourselves and have a bundle of $$$ left for the big pile of balsa and CA that we need. the store bought one one may be fancier but doesn't do the job any better. dick
