after run oil
How do you put after run oil in a glow engine that is mounted sideways and inside a cowl? There has got to be a simple way!!

RE: after run oil
I started R/C in 1972 and have never used after-run oil. My engines seem to last forever. Ten years is not unusual.

RE: after run oil
We need more info to help you. 2-stroke, 4-stroke, what make, how old, how tight of a cowl, how deep is the engine in the cowl, a picture would do wonders. Bill

RE: after run oil
Would a turkey injector syringe reach the carb with the plane held at 90*?

RE: after run oil
For engines cowled I get the oil where its needed with a medium size medical syringe with a piece of fuel tubing attached then a short piece of hard plastic tube instered into the end of the fuel tubing. What hard tube does is allows me to do is connect it to the breather line of my four strokes and inject oil right into the crankcase. Note the 'plunger' of the syringe will not hold up to oil, however replacing it with an O-ring with make it work forever.
The debate of whether after run oil is necessary will always rage on. I say do what you think is best and have fun flying. |
RE: after run oil
I keep a 4" length of fuel tubing. Squirt the oil in the tube (I carry mine in a squeeze bottle with a tip that fits the tubing - and use Dextron III ATF), attach the tube to the intake barb. Cover the exhaust with my finger (optional) and spin the prop a few times. It sucks the oil out of the tube.
If you have a cowl so tight you can't get forceps in to access the carb fitting - pull the glow plug. |
