New to RC, Good car/Trk for $100???
Hey guys,
We're brand new to RC and are looking for a good car or truck for $100.00. This will be for a 14 year old boy. Since we're brand new, would you guys share some links or models that are recomended in the 100 dollar range?
Thanks,
-A

Your price is borderline, your slightly over the toy territory but not totally into hobby grade territory. But there are some options, I would suggest spending just a bit more and you will get more for your money. With some exceptions, the real difference between toy and hobby grade cars is that hobby grade cars are repairable and upgradable whereas toy cars are not. Hit a curb with the toy car and you may or may not be able to get parts, you can get any part with a hobby grade car. You can also upgrade parts and if you want to go to a track even the cheapest entry level car in the hobby grade will be usable in the novice ranks and a toy grade just isn't. You can also transfer elements between cars, lets say he likes it and wants a fancier one for Xmass you can reuse the radio control system, battery etc. and just buy the car rather than the whole thing over again.
Here are a few examples I would suggest.
Duratrax Evader, a basic entry level buggy, complete with RC system. $100 and you need a battery and charger which would be $128 for everything. I would also suggest the bearing kit which is $21 and replaces bushings with ball bearings, not a necessity for starting off but it improves performance, runtime, and reliability.

Upscale from that a bit is the Traxxas bandit, Traxxas cars are a bit better supported in the hobby shops and are good quality. $167 for everything

These are what i recomend, i started out with these 2, thay both have the same chassis & are a clone on the Tamiya TL01 all parts are interchangable with the tamiya ones, yeah racing & HBX make some nice alloy upgrades too , Both can be upgraded to brushless motors & there is a great forum here with tons of support for them [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4964793/mpage_117/key_/tm.htm]RE: HBX, Who else owns one?? Most parts can be found at ur local hobby store, but ive found that online auction sites are generally cheaper even after postage.
