Hey guys................another build of mine. 1/10 scale Nikko Firebird, 19" long. I LOVE this body style on the Firebird (1973), and had to have it. Gutted it, installed a duratrax sprint ESC (7cell), a futaba 3003 servo, futaba reveiver and i run it on a 7 cell nimh. I added the rubber Hobby grade tires, the stock ones were stretched out plastic..........awful, no traction, now its got some big meat on it. Lights are functional............rears are custom leds. Scale rear license plate added as well as aluminum sheeted undercarriage. A duratrax 380 has replaced the stock motor, and it goes every bit of 25 mph!! Hope you like!!

Beautiful work on this Firebird, is it hard mounting all new electronics, servo and motor on it? I would kill to have a beautiful scale model that I could speed around in.[8D]

Thanks Dark.............., I honestly get the most satisfaction out of my "toy grade" builds. I have lots of hobby grade trucks and boats, even a 60 mph E-maxx with a Mamba monster 2200kv system I run on 6s lipo (22.2v), but there is something about taking these rigs and applying personal modding and engineering that I just love. You can find the firebird at rc sites that sell this grade of car. Thanks again to all for the kind comments.

Yeah...............thats the way it came from nikko. I'll tell you guys this, the Hardest part of these builds is to find tires that fit on stock rims which are usually some odd size. They're not your standard RC sizes usually. I have spent many hours sitting in front of a computer looking at tire after tire for the correct Inner diameter AND outer diameter, they both have to be right to keep it scale. Then you have to contend with the width issue too................. I took a pic of my license plate on my car and photoshopped it to get it to the exact size and printed it off with my color printer................worked out well i guess. Thanks again!!!

Did you do anythihng special to the axle and gears to make it handle that 380 and 25 mph? Everywhere I read about a toy grade getting switched with a 380 or larger, it ends with a sad post of gear stripping... Once again, beautiful work, I would like to find a 67 camaro rs[8D]

I havent had to touch the stock rear end setup on any of them...............knock on wood..................they seem to mesh well and a 380 high rpm motor like the duratrax i use doesnt have a ton of low end punch, so there isnt a big strain on the tranny. I have a new bright rig that i tore the gears up on due to putting a 600 motor in it when it had a 380 stock, ive since fixed it by "tightening everything up", its a long explaination on how i did that. Thanks guys!!

And the ESC is still the bargain of the year............7 cell and you cant hurt 'em, i've run 19t mods with it.

I am still new to the modding of these rc's so sorry if this is a dumb question, but what other then the ESC is needed to control a project RC? How is it connected to and controlled by the receiver? Do you always replace the stock receiver? Do you leave any stock electronics? Thanks for all the help, and that ESC in the link looks like a good deal

The stock electronics are basically junk in these rigs. 99% of the time they are not proportional for speed and steering.............either full on or full off, not alot of fun. You need a receiver too, they can be bought for less than 20 bucks and i just buy a frequency that works with one of my existing radios..................so if you add 20 more dollars, you're at about $70 for a conversion, if you already have a radio and use the stock tires and shocks. I find a good solid product and use it till it proves me wrong, and havent had a single issue with these ESC's, i've probably bought 20 of them in the past year. Do you already have a radio? Here is one that is a good brand, used by MANY folks and comes with a receiver AND a servo. Once you have a radio you can use it for all your rigs.

Those are cool battery connectors................kind of like a "tee" connector...........did you make those?

No,

the T, are DEANS PLUG, and they are specially made for installing 2 motor, or 2 battery in parallel ..

I installed one for my 2 motor, and 1 for my 2 battery ..[8D]

The DEANS PLUG, are not included in the kit ..
