Default help on engine choice

hey guys I need your help. I have recently bought an old t-maxx pro.15 from my friend. I got it running pretty good for a little but the engine has just DIED it has like no compression and it wont fire at all. Since christmas is coming up I wanted to put a new motor in it. But i have recently ran into a limited edition savage s-25 for 75$. But anyways i was wondering if the enginefrom the savage will fit in the t-maxxand ifi could just throw somthing in the savage later.P.S. i'am pretty experienced in the hobby and i can pretty much makeanything small like motor mounts or a chassis at my dads work.I just want to know how much of a pain it would be to make it work or if it would rip apart my t-maxx.
thanks,Catfish344

A savage engine wont fit unless you have a extended T-MAXX. Your best bet would be to use the traxxas engine replacement plan and get a 2.5R for about 80 dollars. It can make a .15 MAXX really haul and is not so powerful that drive line components will start to fail. You could go with a large engine but I would keep the truck mostly stock. With the right engine your truck can out run the savage with out a problem. But it all comes down to how much you want to spend and if you prefer having a working T-MAXX with a expensive engine and a savage roller or two running trucks.

I would say the 3.3 would be too much power as I upgraded my 2.5 to a 3.3 and it just ripped my drive shafts apart

I would get the 3.3, who cares about cheap drive shafts.

I had both the 2.5R and the 3.3 and I feel the 3.3 is a overpriced paper weight. It didn't feel like it had more torque or power. It would rev up a little bit faster but I preferred the 2.5R. The 2.5R had lower fuel consumption, held a tune better, and performed just as well at the top end. For the price the 3.3 is not worth it and as a upgrade it is very low on the list.

You must be the only person in the world who doesn't think the 3.3 has quite a bit more power than the 2.5.You must not have been able to tune the 3.3.
Anyway, Catfish If I were you I'd look for an OS .15 or .18 instead.

What was that for?^^^He first said doing the traxxas tradefor a 2.5, then I suggested a 3.3, then I suggested forgetting traxxas engines all together.

I think I might end up going with the OS .18 but there's like 15 different models of it on tower hobbies which one do I get?

You're gonna love that engine. The Os tz .18 is said to be the fastest of the bunch, but that one has the wrong crank.

350, I know you know more about RCing than I do from your posts. With that said, my LHS owner said the same thing about the 2.5r and a 3.3 as Reaper did. He said with a proper tune you wouldn't be able to tell a difference in the two engines. BUT, I can't say for sure, I never have had a 3.3................I chose the 2.5r b/c it was $30 cheaper!!!!!
