Hey... i have one of the old t-maxxes and i was thinking about upgrading to the 2.5 engine. Then i saw that you guys didnt really recommend the 2.5 engine. So what should i get and is there any other conversion kit needed for the old t-maxx? Thanks

sirio makes a direct replacement engine for the old maxx's im not sure on the price but its cheaper than a conversion kit

thanks for the help but i was looking to put a bigger engine in it like the 3.0. do they make anything for that??

XTM .21 big block kit you can get them on ebay for about 125.00 and then you get an big block you want. I converted my 2.5 and I like it.

hobby people sells the xtm .21 conversion kit for $120 and when its on sale wich is every month its on sale for $89.99. i got mine during a sale so i saved alot of money$$$. the xtm kit is a very good kit. i like it. any .21 would be good but if you want a good engine the p2 is a dirrect drop in for the 2.5 so all you would need is a motor mount i think. but with a big block engine be prepared to complain about how weak the trany is and how weak the diffs are then you'll have to upgrade them. ue sells the diffs and trany parts that you will need. but they are very pricy. i am trying to find a diffrent company that sells the parts for cheaper.

i have an old style t-maxx too. i was thinking about putting in the 2.5 but i was tight on cash so instead i got the XTM .18 and its cheap conversion kit, it ended up being expensive a the 2.5 alone. it has tons of power and i very user friendly. i highly reccommend it

I am surprised you havent upgraded yet. I mean the TRX 2.5 isnt that expensive and not that hard to put in!

I have two old school T-Maxx's and I was curious what engine would be a good upgrade but would not put strain on the transmission.

I have put a new post out on the T-Max I have had for about 1 season.. (Should of read this first I guess) New to the T-Maxx truck. It has the 2.5 and I now see I am not the only one fighting with the tuning of this engine?? Is that an understatement..Well what is the best fix, without having to replace half the drive train, but yet still givin you plenty of power?

I got the Dynamite .21 conversion kit, OS .21 motor, MIP CVD's and abunch of RRP stuff along with Maximizer Diff-cups and Integy diff-case. I have no more trans problems, but it cost alot. Its allot cheaper than UE parts.

Yes the engine can be tuned, but it will take probably take 1.5 gallons of nitro to complete the entire break in. Traxxas says 5 tanks, but I really noticed a difference around 1.5 gallons. My TRX 2.5 now holds a tune and runs great. I have noticed that the settings on my carb are quite a bit different then that of the recommended traxxas breakin settings.

I thought I had wasted $500.00 on a truck up until approx. 1.5 gallons of nitro had been used. Then it came alive, and now I would not trade it.

I think I am going to spend money to have somebody at the hobby shop tune it and try to watch and learn something..
