Venom Speed Meter?
Any one tried this:

How does it work and is it worth investing in?

RE: Venom Speed Meter?
Got my beadlock and masher in today (ordered a new set because i ran the T at ~70% throttle into the light pole and tore the axle hole of the right wheel). Don't know when the speed meter will be in but I will drop a few lines in here.

it works just like a bicycle speedometer, you attatch a magnet, a sensor, calibrate it, and away you go. i have one, i love it[8D]

Although, I must say it's a nice volt meter.
Thanks in advance.

thats a difficult spot to see to calibrate. i have mine mounted on the rear diff case on my r-40. it made it very easy to measure the distance the car travels during a revolution. maybe you should find a different place to mount it. good luck

RE: Venom Speed Meter?
When I first took the truck out to test the speed meter, it shows the truck's max speed was 84 MPH in my Cul-de-sac. I was about to fall over it. LOL.
I checked the mounting location and tire rpm and found that one shaft turn only turns somewhere between 60 to 65 percent of the wheel. And this is free rolling; doesn't count for cornering and slipage. I just need to sit down and do an accurate measure of one revolution of the shaft to distance can travel and go from there.
Here's a quick look at the meter: nice finish. The two halves snap together doen't hold well under shocks. I crashed my T on the nose, on the rear and on its lid a few times on asphalt and the two halves split open. It takes a split second to snap them back to gether. A little tape around the joints will help. I guess it uses the "z" plug type because the plug from my Airtronics fit in perfectly. It will measure instantaneous speed, max speed, voltage, distance traveled, and total distance traveled (this one will not reset when power off). The unit will display in English and Metric units.
Let me know if you want to know anything else.

I've heard that these are very inaccurate and are only good for getting an approximate measure. The thing is that when a car is at full speed, the outside diameter of the tires is increased enough to mess up your reading. I bet you could get an accurate reading with foam tires though.

RE: Venom Speed Meter?
i use the speed meter on my r-40, its accurate for about 2 tanks of fuel, depending what kind of driving(strait lines or lots of turning). to measure distance traveled i use a quick square, and make a pencil mark, then make another at one revolution. then, i measure in mm to get it very exact, then use my cell phone to convert metric to english. so far, ive got my far to hit 63mph. and remember, the# of rotations your tires make is irrelivant, its about the distance traveled in one revolution of the magnet.

RE: Venom Speed Meter?
I feel bad for those who buy the VSM, it always gives false readings, just like the rest of venom's products. I have 2 of their temp guages, and they are WAY off what my lazer temp reader tells me. one is 20 above and the other is about 15 degrees UNDER the real temp.
I almost started a deal with Venom Racing, but after testing their products, i waved at them and said goodbye.
