Time for new engine
hey guys,
I am going to be buying a new engine for my 2.5 t-maxx soon. I was narrowing it down to the picco .21 or the o.s. .18tm. I am going for all out power and wheelies. I have not donw anything to the drive train to improve/strengthen it so I am a bit hesitant on the picco. I know that o.s. have great reliability and they usuially under rate their engines, but will it have enough power to get unlimited wheelies where ever and when ever? I really want the picco, but am afraid about the power and the drivetrain.
Can anyone help me who has either of the engines?
Thanks,
Don

hey nitroracer20, i didnt realize you were into mt's also. i have the os 18 tm, and the engine is great. it is an excelent upgrade over the 2.5R , which was a good engine imo. dont forget about the sirio .23, but you will have to invest just as much into the drivetrain as you will in the engine.

fastcrash-yes, I have a t-maxx as well as my r40 and my rs4 3. The sirio is a bit out of my price range at $315. Does the .18tm have enough power to wheelie my maxx every time I want it?
Thanks for your help

Really. I must really be bad at tuning. I cant wheelie mine. Seems to have great poower and speed just not wheelying gob stopping power. Have you got a cv-r what settings you running yours on. Dont get me wrong anyone o.s 18 cv-r is an awesome engine reliable fast and powerful.

any time I try to do more for performance I get higher temps though. Guess I could open the windshield up for better airflow but I do a lot of muddin and don't want that much open. Or get a bigger head.

RE: Time for new engine
I was at work today and some newbie guy comes in and starts complaining about his sirio .18 engine and how it never even holds a tune. Turns out this idiot had an airleak because he broke one of his o-rings in his carb. I was thinking man is he dumb. We said do you want us to switch over the flywheel clutch etc to the sirio, b/c he had a fantom in there and the carb barrel had too much play in it causing it to stick. He said what other engines can i put in here. I named a few and he said he wanted the o.s. .18tm. Me and the guy I work with said the sirio is fine and why dont you keep it. He went on about how it never held a tune and this and that. He said install the .18tm and I will pick it up next week. I said sure, why not.
I started installing it and boy was it a beauty, not to mention the e-z start had barely enough power to turn it over.
To make a long story short, I have made my mind up, the o.s. .18 tm it is. It idles awesome and ran great.

ya, another guy came in today with the tm and he said all good things about it. He said it flips over even with a wheelie bar. Now I need to save for it.

RE: Time for new engine
kool, does anyone know if the engine will tear up my drivetrain internals or what. I will have a rrp steel spur gear/clutch bell on it fyi. Even though that has nothing to do with the drivetrain/internals.. I cant wait to see this guy come in with his t-maxx and complain that the engine has too much power. Ha Ha
