Is your motor binding up against the gears? Are they pushed together too tight. There should be a minuscule amount of play in there.

I used to strip the forward gear in the tranny too. I had run the truck for over two years and then it just went. I replaced the gear with stock. Now I have a sirio 23 and I stripped it after about 5 min. Now I have installed the robinson racing forward gears. Be sure that if you get them, you get both forward gears, just the one will not work.

Now that I think about it, you should take the tranny a part and check the condition of the bearings that the shafts seat into. May be the the bearings are worn or the plastic tranny housing were the bearings seat in is worn. This could cause the gears to not mesh correctly.

YES you shoulg. Grease creates a bit of resistance and lubricates parts.
